The IHA this week confirmed the new management teams for each boy’s and girls underage national sides for 2009 which will lead the sides, in most cases, to European competition in the summer.Railway Union senior coach Paul Cooke adds the U-16 coaching brief to his U-15 responsibilities while Fraser Mills takes on the managerial role. Further appointments for the U-16 ticket will be made in the coming weeks
Andy Smyth, Miles Warren and Paddy Grimes move up with last year’s U-16s to U-18 level with Christopher McCandless joining the trio as manager.
On the girl’s U-16 side, top striker Jean McDonnell (pictured) is the one new addition, stepping into the manager’s boots while Mary Logue’s U-18 set-up remains unchanged.
The same can be said of both U-15 panels while Peter Jackson will be a well-known face name missing from these lists.
Jackson, after eight years involvement with the top end of underage hockey in Ireland, moves up to the men’s senior squad.

great to see the involvment of mick mckinnon in one of these teams. He is an unreal record as a coach and a comment i heard on the sideline a few weeks ago "he is the alex ferguson of hockey"
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. He has revolutionized under age irish hockey. Is he involved with any schools?
ReplyDeleteMick Moved from the Iha to Kings Hospital in September,Not sure what teams he coaches there though
ReplyDeleteSir Mick is involved with Kings Hospital.
ReplyDeleteyea KH
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of underage hockey, when is the girls U16 team going to be announced? It's been almost two weeks since the trial and usually it takes 3 or 4 days, 5 at most. Anyone have any info?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I hear the u16 girls trialists have been informed who has made it to the next trial but the list has not been posted on the iha website yet unfortunately
ReplyDeleteGreat to see Andy Smyth and Miles Warren appointed to the Irish boys u18 team.A very good choice.Best of luck to them.
ReplyDelete"revolutionized under age irish hockey", "alex ferguson of hockey".....I'm sure Mr. McKinnon is quite red faced about those comments. Can we stick to hockey information rather than P.R. silliness(he'll probably pick you in his team anyway!).
ReplyDeleteAndy Smyth and Miles Warren,brilliant!!
ReplyDeleteWhere Has John Hobbs Dissapeared to? Was he not Under 18 Assistant Coach last year? Edward Gash and Mark and Suzanne Evans don't seem to be involved anywhere either? Thought they won the Celtic Cup last year? Whats the story? Where have they all gone? Fired?
ReplyDeleteI thought John was one of our up and coming coaches?
ReplyDeleteGreat to see Paul Cooke appointed as 16s coach.
