Dillon pledges allegiance to Azerbaijan

Railway Union defender Kate Dillon has taken the remarkable step of declaring allegiance to European Hockey Rivals Azerbaijan, it was revealed last night.

In a remarkable move, Dillon is now being considered for the European Nations Squad after it emerged that she has an Azerbaijani grandmother.

The former soviet bloc country famously brought in four teenage Korean players for the last European Championships in Manchester and have since been scouring the globe for talent as part of their Transformation to a National Idea programme.

Upon discovering that the defender had relatives from Azerbaijan, scouts were dispatched to the recent senior interprovincials where Dillon starred for the victorious Leinster team.

Speaking to the Hook this morning, Dillon (pictured, above right, at her grandmothers house on the outskirts of Baku) said the move came totally out of the blue: "I was really surprised but its always been a dream of mine to play international hockey. The AHA apporached me and said it was possible so I jumped at the chance."

  18. Kate's "grandmothers" house has a striking resemblence to a building in Railway Union.

  21. I always knew there was something funny about her, its that twitch she has. Sure if the grandmother thing doesn't work out she could always marry the guy who married the 8 south koreans. What a country!

Best of luck Kate, a league win and an international call up, outstanding week.

Great article Stephen, good to see humour is still alive and kicking!
