UCD storm to Colours victory

For the second year running, UCD easily claimed the annual Colours title. They won by a comprehensive 6-2 margin - this year's title being settled with only eight ties counting toward the end tally.

At a snow-swept Belfield, the overall title was already decided after the second series of games with UCD 5-1 ahead in games won. The ladies' 1sts triumph over their Trinity counterparts pushed them over the winning post with a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Holly Jenkinson(pictured) and Orla O'Shea's first half goals put them in a comfortable position and, from there, Mary Logue's side battened down the hatches to deny Trinity any route back into the game, scarcely giving up a chance.

It meant the men's 1sts was a dead rubber. UCD won it, too, former Three Rock players Robbie McFarlane and Luke McSharry putting them 2-0 up before Andy Grey pulled one back in the second half for the greens.

Results:
Men's: 1sts: UCD 2 Trinity 1; 2nds: UCD 2 Trinity 0; 3rds: UCD 0 Trinity 3
Women's: 1sts: UCD 2 Trinity 0; 2nds: UCD 1 Trinity 3; 3rds: UCD 2 Trinity 1; 4ths: UCD 2 Trinity 1; 5ths: UCD 3 Trinity 0

Congrats to UCD. I think Trinity need to come down to Belfield and have a look at the facilities on offer however. No less than three pitches all of a better standard than Santry. Any idea what Trinitys long term plans are regarding facilities?

UCD seem to have a good bunch of quality mens players but Trinity has a larger player base than UCD so it would appear than trinity should have more depth to draw on what is it that Trinity are doing wrong? Lack of players training, quality of coaching, team mindset, access to facilities, talent?

Trinity have talent thats not the problem i play for a second div team and even though it was never really thought that they were gonna get promoted the feeling around the squad was that individualy they are the most talented team in the league but they seem naive. They lack leadership on and off the pitch and struggle to control the pace of the game.

as regard facilities, it will be years until the pitch gets built. the new sports centre drained all money out of sport in trinity. the players really want a new pitch but college ain't likely to help in the near future.

as for player base, UCD is a much bigger college. on the men's side, a much higher percentage of hockey players join in trinity, there just isn't the talent and top players won't join the club due to facilities. lots of top male players in UCD who don't join the club even with the facilities.
