Banbridge and Annadale have golden touch

Irish Senior Cup, second round:
Both Banbridge and Annadale needed golden goals to take their place in the last eight of this year's men's Irish Senior Cup, qualifying in the two of the fixtures re-arranged after last week's snow in Ulster.

Ross McCandless got the vital goal with a trademark corner strike five minutes into golden goal extra-time to end Instonians' run in the competition. The Co Down side had led 2-0 at half-time courtesy of a McCandless goal and a first senior strike from 15-year-old Josh Moffett.

But Stewart McWilliams and Mark Irwin brought the tie level by the final whistle only for Bann to nick it with their second corner of extra-time. Annadale were made to work similarly hard by Mossley, drawing 3-3 in normal time before winning it on a golden goal.

The draw, meanwhile, threw up another Leinster derby as division one pace-setters Corinthian must travel to Glenanne in the quarter-finals. Should Three Rock get by the challenge of Cookstown next Saturday, they will earn a home tie against Lisnagarvey as will Monkstown should they beat Raphoe.

Kilkeel will be the next round opponent in that tie. Bann, meanwhile, face Annadale at Havelock Park.

Loreto II, meanwhile, got their tie with Belfast Harlequins played after a couple of delays, winning 3-1 at Belfast Harlequins. Leinster involvement in the Irish Hockey Trophy ended as Three Rock Ladies fell to Portadown, 4-3, despite a brace from Sarah-Ann O'Connor.

Second round results: Instonians 2 (Stewart McWilliams, Mark Irwin) Banbridge 3 (Ross McCandless 2, Josh Moffett) on golden goal; Mossley 3 Annadale 4 (Ian Hamilton 2, Neal Hamilton 2) golden goal

Men's Irish Senior Cup draw, quarter-finals (February 27): Banbridge vs Annadale; Raphoe/Monkstown vs Kilkeel; Three Rock Rovers/Cookstown vs Lisnagarvey; Glenanne vs Corinthian

ESB Irish Junior Cup, round three: Belfast Harlequins II 1 (T Johnston) Loreto II 3 (R O'Keefe 2, Wendy Byrne)

What a great opporunity for Corinthians to show what they're made of in the ISC. Should be a great encounter with the Glens. Any bets ??
