Leinster Juniors call for players

The Leinster Junior squad is calling for clubs to nominate players for the upcoming junior interprovincial tournament which will be held in Cork on March 13 and 14, 2010.

Eligibility for nomination excludes all current division one club players and those who line out for second elevens of division one clubs.

Players who have played interprovincial hockey at Senior or U-21 level, or who have played international hockey, are also not eligible to play.

Following the receipt of nominations, training sessions and squad selection will be announced in the coming week.

Nominations can be sent Ian Wilkie at ianwilkie444@gmail.com or via phone to 0876393213.

I would like to nominate 'fox in the box' MacNalley. I know he plays for a 1st division club but let's make an exception for this champion.

any age requirements??

Vikram, Brownlow and Tall lad from Navan up front.

Browner or english lad from Trinity in centre, left and right should be the right midfield from Trinity and suttonians.

Coady and Reuben Centre backs. Left and Right back's can't really think of any.

Sutts goalkeeper

Its a pity the ladies side of Leinster isn't doing the selection in this manner. "Private" requests to Div 2 clubs only for more players to attend what will now be the THIRD week of trials... They dont seem to appreciate that those who are there are the players that are keen to come along and play and they've lost the relevance of what the Interpros are all about. Bad form on the ladies division.

A couple of answers

1. There is no age limit. Apart from they must be over 15.
2. I would prefer if the Club coach nominates players as this makes final selection easier.
3. Our Coach will be ex international Nigel kingston who brings a wealth of experience withhim.
if we get a good squad this will be a great weekend in Cork. We are the current champions so my objective is to retain the title this year.
So guys get onto your coach and let me know as soon as possible.

navan goalkeeper defo in with a shout

Anonymous said...

Ian just wondering who was in last years Junior squad?

Anonymous said...

i believe Weston have conceded the least this season....

Anonymous said...

cox from bray seems to score hat trick every game! scully from weston would walk into defence but no other weston defender would. who is this tall navan striker?? cos me thinks not! browner would not be eligible having played for senior leinster team...

Anonymous said...

well def Brownlow in the forward line...defo scully in defence as he's doin well from what i saw so far this season, along with the trinners centre back and the trinners centre mid, would agree with havin cox in there from bray he's a goal machine! as 4 the others ezra and will from avoca maybe dean and phil b from weston to add to the backs, that tolly humphries chap from trinners is tidy, alan o'sullivan and davitt from navan are very handy. to add to the forward line again u cud throw in tucker from weston and simon from sutttonions...dont really know that player from navan up front which has been mentioned

Anonymous said...

1.56...u think that the league leaders deserve 1 player in the side and then u mention 2 from navan?? give me a break!

Anonymous said...

Tall lad from navan is probably davitt...

Anonymous said...

ok look at it another way...brownlow cox and tucker would walk into the sutton forward line, scully, dean, and the trinity centre back and lets say the red haired fella from trinity as well would walk into the sutton team, and the trinity centre mid, willy a. and ezra wud also walk into the sutton team and as for the goalie....there are a few good keepers in div 2...V.Byrne has played interpro's a lot and done really well......wud agree also with the navan keeper being good enough and of course the sutton keeper

Anonymous said...

Can the sutton player who has a problem with two players from Navan being mentioned please get his head out of his ass and explain why the only difference between the two teams in two meetings this season is a late stroke for sutton in the last game?? Navan may not have the big name players who have played schools hockey etc but we have some very good players in our ranks! Take a look at last years leinster junior team who won the interpros, i think it consisted of 6-7 Navan players! how many of our league leaders (for now) were part of last years team?

always with the aurgumemts....

Anonymous said...

So is this team really only for Div 2 players??

Anonymous said...

don't think so, Mukthar Ahmed or Nasir Munir might be good enough players... or how about some Kilkenny, Mullingar or Brendan's lads?

Anonymous said...

looks like there will be a great team spirit on the Leinster team this year.

Lads, you need to stop all this bitching who should or shouldnt be in the team because at the end of the day, its the coaches that will have the final say.

Div 1 player

10 58,

The only reason there were 6 or 7 navan players was because the top div 2 teams like Clontarf and Sutts didn't want there players playing in it. Sutts should of coarse have more players than Navan on this team. The keeper, Rueben, Richie W, Gillette and Tyson (couple of others whose names escape me) should make that team easliy.

10:38, think you may have a bit of a chip on your shoulder... Were you not good enough to 'walk' into the Sutts team?? Looks like most of Div 2 would walk into the Sutts team... Made how they're top of the league isn't it?! The Dean bit made me laugh tho, quality stuff.

kilkenny players should definetly be in with a shout!!!!

Kilkenny have a few players who could definitely get in this team.

But not Brendans or Mullingar, whenever we play them at home we destroy them and it shows that if it wasn't for their home field advantage on grass and shale respectively they would both be many divisions down.

12.21 - an interesting point but not really backed up by stats is it? Mullingar unbeaten away from home in six games so far this season!!!

would defo say Tom Bowers is a potential inclusion.

Anonymous said...

any relation of Dane Bowers?

Anonymous said...

Great that theres a bit of a buzz about this team, hope it translates into lots of people going forwrad. always a great weekend away!!!!

Anonymous said...

if Div 3 players were allowed play there wouldn't be any Div 2 players in the squad!!

hi tom h from suttonians here.
I agree with 10.58 this is not a view of the club and accept my apologies. The fact is the orginal poster is right Suttonians and some of the bigger clubs don't put players forward as in years gone by these teams have been in contention for leagues and cups by the time the the Juniors come around. We ourselves have 5 games in 14 days with an Irish Hockey Trophy Semi final trip to the North thrown in too!
Suttonians won't be putting anyone forward due to this but we wish Ian and Nigel all the best in Cork!

This does not mean we don't rate this competition as many of our players including myself have played for Leinster.
The contests between Navan and Suttonians have been hard fought this year and we look forward to another good one tommorrow!!

thanks

tom

just a thought, yer man Craig Moore from trinty could be snapped up by Munster.

Tom Bowers from the 'Gar would defiately be in with a shout.

Shame about the sutts lads not being in the mix but very much understandable given their schedule

The Junior interpros is always a great weekend and it gives players the opportunity to train with different coaches and different players. Was great to win it last year and if the enthusiasm shown here on the blog is an indicator it'll be a strong team this year.
Apart from a few other notable mentions (Rob Kelly from Clontarf among them) Navan players made the best effort to represent their province last year, hopefully all the other clubs can take note. Obviously there are plenty of players that might take the place of some of Navan's nominations but they have to show up and claim the place first.
I'd love to see the classier players from the top of the league along with the best players from the lower teams - with our powers combined!

Some of Highschools players should be in there

Anonymous said...

agree with 11:39...along with some kilkenny college players??

Anonymous said...

what players from high school could get in this team 11.59?

Anonymous said...

Anybody reckon there could be any division 4 players involved?

Anonymous said...

one high school player that should make the team is sam williamson who plays for glenanne 4ths other glenanne players mite be karl crosbe(keeper) or rees coleman!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Robbie Mc guiness, steven reidwould be the standout players for highschool apart from shane o donoughue and gareth carragher and josh purcell.

Anonymous said...

Why would any of the school players want to play Leinster Juniors when they are eligible for Leinster U-16's, U-18's and in some cases U-21's?
