Hermes up to second; Alex and Trin win

Women's Leinster Division One:
Trinity 2 (Orla Callanan, Rachel Scott) Bray 1 (Nicky Dignam)
Trinity hold onto fifth place overnight as they notched their fourth success this term as they took the initiative in the second half after a scrappy and shapeless first half produced no goals at Santry. Orla Callanan got on the end of a to on one at the back post to open the scoring and Rachel Scott hit in a corner to make it 2-0. Nicky Dignam pulled one back in the 70th minute but the students held on for the points.

Old Alex 3 (Roz Ellis, Becca Coll, Nicola Gray) Glenanne 0
Three first half goals against Glenanne eased Old Alex up to sixth place with potential to leap-frog Trinity into the IHL play-off place on Sunday should they win a key tie against Pembroke in Milltown. Roz Ellis opened the scoring when she smacked in a corner rebound on her reverse and she was the key instigator in Becca Coll's strike ten minutes later. Ellis fired a shot in after a simply-worked free hit and Coll applied a deft touch to double the difference. And the scoring was complete when Nicola Gray's direct corner shot found the backboard.

Pembroke 2 (Karen Hales, Sinead Loughran) Hermes 4 (Gillian Pinder, Aine Connery, Jenny Burke, Anna O'Flanagan)
Hermes took advantage of Loreto's day off league action to bound into second place in the league standings as they overcame an early setback to beat Pembroke at Serpentine Avenue. Karen Hales corner goal broke the deadlock early on but Gillian Pinder had the game level by half-time with a fine solo goal, rounding the goalkeeper and rolling in on her reverse. Further goals from Aine Connery, Jenny Burke and Anna O'Flanagan turned the tie fully in Hermes' favour before Sinead Loughran book-ended the game with Pembroke's second. They face a vital tie against Alex tomorrow in a bid to zone in on an IHL place as they currently lie eighth.
