Three in three wins Interpros for Leinster

Three goals in three second half minutes gave Leinster the all-important five goal cushion to win the Senior Interprovincial title on goal difference at Grange Road.

Alan Sothern scored the only goal of the first half as the Blues sought to outdo Ulster’s 5-1 win over Munster.

And it was the Pembroke starlet who was on the mark again just after the break when he doubled the lead from a penalty corner.

5-0 looked remote with 11 minutes left but Sothern first set up Mitch Darling before completing his hat-trick seconds later.

And the rout was complete in the 61st minute when Rovers’ Darling got the fifth to give the Blues their first Interpro title since 2001.

Well done leinster. I see from previous blogs, ther was some criticism about selection. I think the silence on this blog speaks volumes.

well done leinster, super win. shows that there is some great young talent coming through there. great mixture of young and old in the squad, browne was brilliant, elliot showed good intensity, bane showed great strength and experience and brennan seemed to control the whole game from the back. the younger players seemed to grow from that and the goals were inevitable. really great performance. no doubt that southern, darling, mcconnell, robinson and walker will be serious international players. well done lads.

doran was the only one who didnt get pitch time, gary shaw did well against munster and ritchie shaw played well also when he was needed!quality few games to watch with lots of quality games!

Well done to the team. I didn't see any games but I'm told Alan Browne played some fantastic hockey in midfield throughout the weekend. Good going for an 'oul lad'!

Two lads got taken aside for a random drugs test too. Good to see that happen to keep serious players on their toes in case they contemplate dabbling.

There were no Irish selectors at the tournament either. They must have been washing their hair or something...

Noel Keoghs selections were all justified – a very good coach

Well done to all – especially Alan Bowne who was unjustly criticised on this blog recently – a great player

Was down on friday nite supporting Ulster and thought Alan Brown had a great game. Well done in regaining the Cup. Anyone know how David Robinson is after getting injured on fri nite. Looked like he may have popped his shoulder out?? Lets hope he recovers quickly. He was having a good game until the injury..

From the Independent - "Afterwards, winning captain Gordon Elliott expressed frustration that Passmore was not present for an event that featured none of the 18 who were in New Zealand."

pity for the young lads who were brilliant, fair play to gordy for pointing it out!

The intensity and workrate of the leinster midfield, Alan Browne, Andy McConnell and Brendan Parsons was outstanding. This won the them the tournament.

Parsons was a strange choice for me but he really justified his selection with a fantastic second half performance against Ulster and an equally superb first half performance against Munster.

I was disappointed for Doran not getting a run, he's a very talented keeper. Unfortunately the tournament was in the balance at all times.

Ha,Poor doran ended up being one of the two getting drug tested, brilliant! Walks had a solid tournament so unfortunately there was no time when doran was able to be played! If leinster had lost friday, he would have got his chance! Theres always next year!

ah stop takin the piss outta doran.......wahey!!!!

I thought he was at the game on Friday night. However if he wasn't he certainly should have been. Isn't that what he gets paid to do?

Was good to see Stephen Butler and Timmy Lewis there to support

Interpros are a bit of a farce when it comes down to which side scores the biggest victory against a very weak Munster side. I imagine the result would have been reversed if Ulster played Munster in the last game. Is this the way forward for Irish hockey? - I think not.

I agree with the comment about the Leinster midfield, Alan Browne was sheer class and Andy McConnell and Brendan Parsons showed incredible maturity for their first senior interpros. Parsons changed the Ulster game when he came on after 30 minutes and 2-0 down. He ran at Ulster.

It wasn't just a case of scoring the most against Munster. Munster were only 2-1 down against Ulster with 10 minutes to go and should have scored. They were quite a good side just a little weak up front. Missing chances can make a team lose heart and thats what happened to them.

Check out the Ulster comment above!Talk about sour grapes!
