Women's Round-up

Two goals in each half announced Hermes intentions in the title chase. They remain the only unbeaten side apart from leaders Pembroke and are probably the least affected team by the loss of international players. The difference between the sides was their close finishing, taking their half-chances. They are four points off the pace

Pembroke took advantage of Loreto's loss to move four points clear of the chasing trio. They remain unbeaten with hopes they can complete a men's and women's division 1 double. Alex's difficult season continued as they lost to Corinthian while Railway keep in the title hunt with their 2-0 win over Three Rock.

The frost got the better of Trinity's early morning encounter with Genesis.

Loreto 0 Hermes 4, Pembroke 3 UCD 1, Old Alex 2 Corinthian 4, Railway 2 TRL 0

Jacqui Potter Cup:
Hermes strong weekend continued as Jenny Burke's double sank Railway Union 2-0. They will now face a familiar foe - Loreto in two weekend's time after they overcame table-toppers Pembroke after extra-time.

There will be an unfamiliar name in the final, though, as Trinity beat Glenanne and Railway 2nds got past Loreto 2nds

In chc -V- alex, the same offender got yet another yellow card. I have never played a match where this has not happened, including schools hockey!
if Alex are going to win a title this year, it'll be for roughest team!!

Trinity only beat Glennane 3-2! And Glennanne had a tough match on sat. Perhaps if trinity had played Genesis, who they drew to earlier this season, there would be a different result.
I think Trinity should stop playing at ten o'clock on sat mornings, considering people have to travel for days to get there!

I think Trinity need to sort out their facilities. To expect away teams to change in the apalling conditions that are there is a disgrace. Agree it could have been a different game if Trinity had had a game to day before but it was a fair result over all. 3-2 AET shows the gap between Div 1 and 2 is getting smaller and Div 2 sides are well able to compete now!

Who was the Yellow Card offender? Fulton got a yellow against UCD on Sat too!

there's been no money in trinity sport for ages to redo the pitch because of the debacle of their new sports hall on campus which meant there was no money for other facilities, trinity hockey clubs are fed up of using the crap pitches which are barely tended to and have regulalry tried to get alternative training arrangements but can't afford going it alone without college support

I feel sorry for them having to put up with that. The pitch itself is not too bad but the dirt of the changing rooms it totaly unexceptable. Surely Trinty Sports Council could budget for a cleaner for the changing rooms!

It's a pity trinity had to move out of college park to play competitive hockey in the first place!!

I don't think any of the teams play league matches there anymore apart from the invitational Coulson Cup in the Summer.

Pity as it's a really great location!!

Both the pitch and changing facilities at Santry are filthy,
there is animal excrement on the pitch itself..and that is not an exageration.

Trinity are playing some good hockey this half of the season..I hope they get their facilities sorted or they won't be able to attract and keep good players.
Are they not due to move out to Milltown to play on one of Alex's pitches when they finally get finished?

The league is hotting up nicely, great to see it becoming more of
an open competition rather than the usual two horse race.
Saw the Pembroke / Loreto Cup game on Sunday..Pembroke should have wrapped it up but missed too many chances..

what is being said about Trinit's pitch is akin to what is being said about Fingal pitch on this site. I don't know wheter people expect these clubs to pull money of trees but they obviously wouldn't play there if they didn't have to. People are acting like both Trinity and Fingal have alternatives that are finacially viable, but can i ask.....what are they?

I dont think anyone is saying Trinity gain an advantage playing out in santry...when there's no toilet roll in the jacks it affects both teams !

I believe the Fingal situation is slightly different to the Trinity one. Fingal changed names to avail of grants from the Fingal council and seemingly have not bothered to push ahead with applications etc. that would allow the funding needed to resurface their pitch. A strange situation as it would only bolster the club and membership numbers in my opinion!

Both mens and womens clubs have for years been trying to get the facilities in Santry improved.I think it's quite obvious anyone commenting negatively about it on this site has never been involved in the running of a college sports club. THERE IS NO MONEY. And as for moving to Alex, how willing do you think an already stretched sports department are to give money towards renting a pitch when they already own one??

well i think that toilet roll and maybe a clean of the pitch is the first step for improvement. Second step would be to play their games at lunch time. At ten o'clock in the morning, every pitch looks horrible!
As for the alex coment about a certain player, doesn't take a genius to know who they're talking about....

In response to your comment, Trinity Sports Department spent thousands cleaning the pitch last year, which doesn't combat the underlying drainage problems from the increased residential development in the surrounding area, and the quality of the pitch surface itself which is obviously crap. In fact the pitch was cleaned over Christmas. Secondly, there are no regulations in the Leinster Ladies League that specifies the times at which matches must be played so Trinity occasionally organise games early. Having said that 95% of their games have been played at 11am or after this season. And finally, the changing rooms are used by 9 clubs comprising c. 50-100 members in each and 3-4 outside clubs/societies/organisations. Occasionally we run out of bog roll...apologies.
