Ireland rebounded from their disappointment of missing the final, scoring early by Jenny McDonough from a corner and Cathy McKean doubled the lead at the far post to make it 2-0.
Canada's Stephanie Jameson, though, pulled one back on the stroke of half-time to make for a nervy second period. The play swung back and forth, Ireland creating the best chances, first on a penalty-corner, when a deflection by Eimear Cregan shaved the post then from a penalty-stroke, which Nikki Symmons could not convert.
The last five minutes of play were very intense, Canada throwing caution to the wind to force the equalizer. The Irish defense was stretched at time, but held on to their narrow lead to win the
Bronze Medal.
