Women's Interpros: Day One

Munster took the initiative in the women's interpros as they recovered from a goal down to beat Connacht 3-1 and lead the group after the first round of games.

Leinster and Ulster opened the tournament with a scoreless draw which saw chances at an absolute premium in a feisty affair that saw Cathy McKean sin-binned.

Ulster went closest in the latter stages, forcing Isobel Joyce to clear off the line while the Northern province won two corners to Leinster's one - won by a mazy Emma Smyth run - but defences were on top. Holly Jenkinson and Joyce were impressive in defence, giving up few opportunities.

It gave Munster the chance to capitalise. They fell behind early, though, when Pembroke's Louisa Moore scored in the eighth minute from Audrey McCormack's cross.

But Munster began to dominate thereafter but could not break down the visitor's defences until the second half when Jen O'Loughlin dived to touch in Julia O'Halloran's cross. The UL striker doubled up a few minutes later before Audrey O'Flynn completed the win in the 51st minute from a rebound.

Results: Leinster 0 Ulster o; Connacht 1 (Louisa Moore) Munster 3 (Jen O'Loughlin 2, Audrey O'Flynn)
