Corinthian 5 (Rowland Rixon-Fuller 2, Darren Kimfley, Davy Carson Dan Williams) Clontarf 1 (Tom Noonan)
Corinthian were made to work by a well organised and well structured Clontarf but ultimately their quality told in the second half as they notched up the goals to source a 5-1 win. Tom Noonan's brave first half strike gave the Bulls a first half lead as he slid in to complete a counter-attack, taking both ball and post in the process, picking up a nasty gash for his troubles.
But the red fought back in the second half and, enjoying the majority of possession throughout, finally took their chances to score five second half goals with Darren Kimfley, Davy Carson, Dan Williams and Rowland Rixon-Fuller's double doing the damage. Andrew Poynter's superb forehand drive denied Brian Doherty at corner time with one of the more spectacular goal-line clearances this season.
Monsktown 2 (Matt Fairweather, Gareth Watkins) TRR 2 (Pierre de Voux 2)
Both sides will feel they might have been robbed of all three points at a lively affair at Rathdown. Three Rock certainly stole one as they recovered from a 2-0 deficit but the final act of the game saw Pierre de Voux denied a hat-trick as the final whistle beat a simple finish into an open goal. Prior to that, Monkstown were the better side, taking a 1-0 lead into half-time through Matt Fairweather's drag-flick and Gareth Watkins doubled the lead, via David Storey's stick, with a reverse-stick effort. De Voux pulled one back from a neat corner move before equalising very late. He was assisted by debutant Ross Canning and the double-act almost produced the winner in the last seconds as Rovers countered from a Town corner. Canning squared to de Voux only for a blast of the whistle to end the day's action in which Patrick Shanahan was sin-binned.
UCD 2 (John McInroy, Tim Hill) Fingal 1 (Tom Manning)
UCD produced back-to-back league victories for the first time since their promotion back to the top tier as they continued their improvement to beat Fingal. John McInroy scored the only goal of the first half, once again the student's intricate corner machine paying dividends, as the player-coach deflected home. Tom Manning equalised within a minute of the second half restart. But Tim Hill scored a corner rebound from Rob Lynch drag-flick for the winner. Fingal almost gained a share of the spoils in the last minute but Ross Gribben produced the save of the day to keep out David Bane's effort as UCD got the points their effort deserved. Lloyd Pearson picked up the one yellow of a relatively clean game.

gap opening up at the bottom. Will the bulls be able to close it.
UCD are staring to pick up points. Not looking good for Clontarf unless they can start turning their good play into victories.
Railway beware......
Corinthians Hockey Club, currently top of the leinster league but in my view a long way clear at the top of the Showers league..Top notch yesterday
Well done UCD!!
Totally deserved it.
Your old coach.
Just to follow up my previous comment: Corinthians changed the match in about 5-7 min. 2nd half, which 'killed' us. We have put our mark there, what we can do but we need, like the other teams, 16 players, not just about 11 up to the level. And that shows, 2 nd half. All credit to my guys, regularly unfortunate in the decision making 'team' too often now, TRR, Fingal and Monkstown.Disappointed in Corinthians 1st half performance. Expected them to be better, good win for Corinthians at the right time for them. But it is not over yet with the 'Tarf'.Pembroke is way ahead of the rest.
fair play to ucd, after a poor intervarsities, slagging of there warm up and a last minute draw by clontarf they've really turned it round. definately proved the "dont know how to win" fraternity wrong
great stuff UCD! starting to pick up points now.. you DO know how to win!
In previous years the 7 points UCD have would be enough to put them in the playoff position, can't see that being the case this year. The standard at the bottom is higher than ever and all can nick points off each other.
wouldn't really say higher than ever. Trin were tied bottom with Avoca with 15 points about 7/8 years ago before dropping down while Railway went down with 16 in a pretty dramatic playoff the year before.
Think the bottom teams have been pretty poor for last four/five years and made for not very exciting relegation battles. Hopefully this year will be different.
fair enough. I meant in recent seasons although i do think the standard of the entire league has gone up dramatically in the last few years leaving the ones at the bottom with a harder mountain to climb.
Bray weren't too bad in their first season in Div 1. Same cant be said for the 2nd season tho!!
Wow UCD beating a fingal team who are stronger with manning and o' gorman back in the fold...
Ucd are getting better granted but long way to go. Great to see them taking points off fingal and the fight between the bottom 5 continues...
agreed that the standard of div 1 has gone up dramatically overlast 5 seasons or so, what is the IHA doing to bring the underage leagues and lower divisions up commensurately? or are we going to settle for the trickle down effect?
9.43am... Showers league??
Very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with Corinthian's 1st half performance Harrold. I'm sure they'll try to do better when they play you in Mount Temple.
Hopefully it wasn't any worse than the the disappointment they felt with Clontarf's performance in the 2nd half, you know with them leaking 5 goals and all...
I hope that Fingal player saw yellow for that attempted tackle?
Looks like back stick to me. Great action shot Adrian! Keep up the good work.

5 big fish in this pond..
Let's see what minnows can join the big ranks....
in response to 5 29 Fingal will do damage to corinthians on the sand dunes. It will not be a great spectators match as the fancy hockey will not work for the reds . Fingal will get the job done tho'

Haven't played at Alex yet; do they have showers for the men up there in those portakabins?
Showers in Alex would probably be mid to lower part of the table, three in each changing room and temp not too high. Must get bonus points for privacy though, each has its own cubicle.
Privacy? You afraid of everyone seeing your tail?
Monkstown showers are worse than the Bray showers were.
(Bray didn't have any showers)
Return of the Fox this week, Leinster League just got interesting again...
fox in the box scored 0 (none, zilch, zippo) goals against Monkstown 2's last Sat. Saving himself for Div 1. He's back!!!!!!
playing leinster league now for at least 4/5years and year in year out corinthians showers are luke warm at best. always hate showering there. i would put them last
The Decision making "team", hope you dont feel it was an umpiring error that allowed Corinthians to score 5, I think you do your guys a disservice to suggest that the loss was down to a couple of decisions not going their way.
Fingal on a bit of a slide. Reckon the two Athy boys should come home and join the dream team!!
Lets get this straight here..
Corinthians deserved to beat Clontarf 5-1, any Corinthians player would probably agree that they didnt have the best of 1st halves and that Clontarf were worthy of there 1-0 lead at the break-i think the only real clear cut chance for them can from Doherty's Drag.
In the second half you guys certainly upped your game and were far better than us and scored some very good goals. No one from Clontarf is debating over any umpiring decesions made during the game or blaming that for our defeat. We only have ourselves to blame.
As for people to suggest that come the winter months our training attendance and our attitude is gonna drop, and i can say is i dont think it will, we fought all last year to earn the right to play div 1 and we are gonna fight all the way until the end of this year to try and maintain our position in the league. Thats all we can do..We're find out in early 2010 if that is good enough
Abbo(clontarf hc)
I'm sorry to say i think Tarf will go down Abbo...
I'm sure you'll try your best but losing to Railway has severly harmed your prospects. Railway have enough experience in their team to nick the odd point off the likes of Corinthian and maybe a couple of others too. You guys lack first division experience which i think will ultimately cost you. Maybe next time you come up you'll stay up...
kinda ironic the word verification below is cereo...close enough!
1:35 - as a CHC member (but not for the first team that day) I do agree that Clontarf had a very very good 1st half. No doubt. They got a great team goal and a goal that was constructed well and executed at pace.
I think in the 2nd half your fitness let you down a bit and probably something to address?
Compared to Bray, Clontarf certainly are more hardworking and eager to play in this league.
I would like to see Clontarf stay up in Div one compared to the other teams in the bottom half....
Advice is to train hard over the December January months as this is where positions are won/lost in Div 1.
As a member of Corinthians, I have to say there's no way we're top of the showers league.
U were obviously first in & that's why you were duped by the toasty temp!!!
personally don't think tarf will go down, think they'll beat railway next time around as i think they're a better team overall. Railway have ALOT of very inexperienced players. Tarf have to pick up a result elsewhere also and will be aiming at beating UCD at home at least.
Stephen,
any update on the "incident" after UCD v Clontarf? Thanks.
A meeting with UCD has been held; I believe another one with Clontarf is scheduled in the coming week. Nothing more to report as yet.
care to expand on the 'incident'?
No! Mentioned it twice before; no comments on this issue as matter is still under investigation.
