Jacqui Potter draw throws up final repeat

Hermes and Railway Union will face off in a repeat of last year's Jacqui Potter Cup final, this time at the quarter-final stage in Park Avenue, on January 31 following the draw this week. Glenanne and Corinthian face off in the only other all-division one tie.

Pembroke await the winner of Old Alex II and Genesis, which will be played on January 24, while Loreto II will travel to play either Corinthian II or Old Alex's first team. That last 16 tie is also pencilled in to be played this Sunday.

Jacqui Potter Cup – Round Three draw:
Old Alex II/Genesis vs Pembroke; Corinthian II/Old Alex I vs Loreto II; Railway Union vs Hermes; Glenanne vs Corinthian

looking at the draw, and not taking away from some of the teams - isn't it about time that leinster started using a seeding system, the hermes v railway match is more like the final

semi final: Pembroke, Alex 1, Corinthians, Railway/hermes - I will go with railway

@9.48PM Absolutely no - it's a CUP Competition!

I really hope it's not a final between a team like Hermes and then Corinthians II's. I love the Paddy's Day fixture and would like to see a contest

So by seeding a cup you are generally trying to get the two teams that will end 1st and 2nd in the league into the final of the cup. Do you think that will motivate everyone in the league knowing that it is only being set up to see those two teams in the final.
The beauty about a Cup competition is that you could have a thrilling match in any of the rounds. Get real 9:48pm.

Look at last years mens Leinster Senior Cup, it was a thrilling final between two well matched(on the day) motivated teams that threw up a thriller going to golden goal.
If you had seeded that cup from the previous years league campaign that match might have happened in the first or second round and only a hand full of spectators might have seen it.
Never kill the excitement of cups by seeding them!!

Yes, but you risk another final like Hermes Trinity from a couple of years ago. Just simply not a contest. And Trinity are Division 1.

If a Division 2 team qualifies for the final having beaten the likes of Loreto, Hermes or Railway, then fair play to them. But if they qualify for the final having beaten only Division 2 teams then the luck of the draw will most likely result in a pretty rubbish final.

If you at least did a draw that seeded the top 4 Division 1 teams as per the previous year's league results and then placed 2 of them in each half of the draw and then did open draws all the way to the final with regard to each half of the draw, you would at least be guaranteed that the team reaching the final either beat one of those 2 teams or beat a team that beat one of those 2 teams.

Definitely should be left unseeded! It is a cup competion and it would make a farce of the idea of a cup if it went seeded. Else why have Division 2 in it at all if you don't give them incentive to have a chance at getting to the final. It is a great competition and most years there is a great game on Paddy's.

Seeding the teams to pave the way for a more exciting cup final is a silly idea. Look at last year's IHL final between Loreto & Hermes.. what a bore..nothing of note happened until the shoot out competition (not taking away from Loreto's deserved win, over the course of a great competition).

A Cup competition is all about excitement and unpredictability and the underdog.

exactly anything can happen in a cup match!!!!

@9.07am That's a bit harsh. Although it's highly unlikely that Corinthian II will beat Old Alex I, let alone reach the final, if they (or any of the Division2 teams) DID reach the final, they would have beaten off some stiff competition from the Division above and therefore, I can't see how it wouldn't be a contest?!

I totally agree that anything can happen in a cup match, but a seeding system would mean that there would be less opportunity for junior sides to progress without beating at least one top seeded opponent.
