Men's IHL: Cookstown 0 Annadale 4

Cookstown 0 Annadale 4 (Gareth Kidd, Neil Hamilton, Paul Jackson 2)

In a crucial match for Glenanne and Pembroke's IHL chances, Annadale jumped to the top of Group A with an emphatic 4-0 scoreline against Cookstown, ending their long unbeaten run at Coolnafranky.

The match was postponed back in December with Dale 4-1 up in the third quarter before the pitch froze however, Annadale did not give Cookstown a second opportunity and eliminated the Tyrone club. In basketball, the third period referred to as the 'killer quarter' and so it proved tonight as all four goals came within 17 minutes.

Paul Jackson opened the scoring, flicking past Ian Hughes. Neil Hamilton deflected in a corner before an impressive touch from Jackson to Peter Caruth's long ball made it three. Gareth Kidd added a fourth to complete an amazing turnaround from last Saturday when the same sides at the same venue saw Town win 3-1.

Annadale's bonus point puts them top of the table and will make the semi-finals if they can pick up at least a losing bonus point against Pembroke.

With it being so tight at the top of both groups can we clarify what the rules are when two teams are level on points.

Is it:

Goal Difference
Most Wins
Most Bounes Points
Result Between Teams that are level.
etc

Would be nice to know before the weekend were everyone stands.

Nice to see justice was done. Would have been harsh i think if cookstown had won that one after being 4-1 down. Congrats to annadale.

Looking like an interesting last day of IHL action. I predict C of I, three rock, annadale and glens to go through. The way it stands cookstown would need to do pembroke a favour against glens for them to go through and banbridge would need to win and C of I to win.

Pembroke are up against it alright, need to win with a bonus to qualify. Would not put it against them though, always seem to produce the goods on a national stage.

Pembroke can go through if they beat Annadale and get a bonus point. A tall order I know.

its well within pembrokes capabilities to beat annadale by more than 2 goals,as annadale showed last night it doesnt take a long time to score goals with them bagging 4 in 17 minutes, and with the defense and goalkeeper pembroke have, a clean sheet isnt such a long shot, should prove to be a great game anyway and I have a sneaky feeling pembroke will do it

Rules re IHL if teams are level on points.

Goal Diff.
Goals For.
Results between teams.
Group A :Pembroke have it all to do.9 Points,+1 G.D.
Annadale may need only 1 bonus point.finish 13 points,GD +6.If so Pembroke finish 12 points,+2 GD.
Cookstown now have no change,6 points only,if above
scenario ,Glens need only 1 bonus point,finish 12 points,GD +4.
Glens ,Annadale qualify.
But you never know,
But forecast, never, too close to call.

surely annadale can afford to lose by 2 goals and still go through, having a better goal difference on than pembroke?

I really wish Paddy Power took bets on Irish hockey.
If your reading PP, here's another market for you!

paddy power had live betting on rovers vs leuven back in round 1b. perhaps they will have it for ko16

If you really need a fix www.bwin.com cover the Dutch and German hockey leagues. Bit of money to be made in it...

I bet on the EHL before and the World Cup / Olympics etc.

It would be great to have a weekly market on Division 1.
Or even on the ISC/IHL

Whats this fortress about ci 2s and annadale 1s in the space of a couple of days!

Anonymous said...

the fortress is about unbeaten in over 20 games.... 2 ulster cups and 2 ulster leagues.... dale beat us to win their 5th league 3 years ago, and until now no one else has beat us there...

id say thats a fortress. (even sean connery got out of the rock)

regards the glens win.. it was 3 seasons ago, that is what was meant by the (3 years) ago. but im glad u had to use ur calculator to work that out.

Glenanne won the trophy in 2007, beating Cookstown in the quarter finals on the 17th of February. Here is the link:

Just checked my Calender and it is 2009. That is two years mate...

why didnt u say three seasons then if thats what u meant? you shouldnt say 3 years if you have lost there within 3 years, which you clearly have. ( a year is 365 days and 366 every 4 years) not a hockey season.

22 games unbeaten at home, pretty impressive by any standards but we are progressing still, young side and room for improvement.

Dale finished alot better and were well on top for one 1/4 but we had few good chances early on - if they'd went in and dale were 2 down after 1st 1/4 i'd imagine we could have held on...but we didn't and now we just have to try to build on to make 23 or 24 next time!

Good luck to everyone in IHL this weekend ( except Glens obviously!!)

technically it was 3 years ago.. depending on the way u look at it..

2009- 1
2008- 2
2007- 3

lol.

now quit arguing over years and seasons and go play some hockey or something
