Phenomenal comeback sees Glens through

ESB Senior Cup: Glenanne 3 (Dearbhla Kieran 2, Paula Fitzpatrick) Ulster Elks 3 (Suman Bala, Kirstie Lammay, Caroline Smith); Glenanne win on ps
Glenanne worked the oracle this afternoon at St Mark's as they produced a stunning comeback to dump the last season's semi-finalists, Ulster Elks, out of the ESB Senior Cup at the first hurdle.

The Elks had beaten Glenanne by several goals in a pre-season friendly and looked on course to repeat that feat as Commonwealth Games gold medalist Suman Bala opened the scoring. Kirstie Lammay and Caroline Smith also netted to build a 3-0 half-time lead.

But Guy Garrett's side produced a famous response. Dearbla Kieran pulled one back from a penalty corner to give hope before Paula Fitzpatrick and Kieran again were on target to make it 3-3 inside normal time.

The Glens nailed all five penalty strokes in the shoot-out to take the tie and a place in the second round hat.
