Ireland 1 (Peter Blakeney) Scotland 1 (Gordon McIntyre)
After months lingering on 99, Karl Burns (right) brought his ton of international caps up in third game of Ireland’s series with Scotland as a much changed side drew 1-1 for an unbeaten weekend.
C of I club mate John Jermyn wore the captain’s armband for the first time, too, but saw his early corner shots were well dealt with. Peter Blakeney, though, hammered in high, first time from the top of circle when David Ames laid the ball his way for a 32nd minute lead.
A litany of unconverted corners characterised the second half as Mark Ruddle did well between the posts. He was powerless, though, to prevent Gordon McIntyre’s rebound with eight minutes left as the game opened out and stretched from end to end.
