Following the completion of the Champion's Trophy and Champion's Challenge events, Ireland have remained in 19th spot in the latest world ranking list announced this morning, one place behind France and marginally ahead of Austria.
The ranking reflects this summer's final appearance in the Champion's Challenge II event and winning the EuroHockey Nations Trophy but does not, as yet, include ranking points earned in the World Cup qualifiers.
These will be factored in following the World Cup in March in India and will see Ireland close the gap on France due to a higher ranking in the respective qualifier though the margin looks currently too large to overhaul. The next ranking tournament will be in 2011 for Ireland.
Argentina's ranking dropped from ninth to 14th following a disappointing Pan-Am Games but is likely to bounce back up the list in March if they make an impact in the World Cup with Belgium likely to drop out of the top ten.
Meanwhile, Ireland lie eighth in the European rankings which factors in results from 2007 and 2009's nation's championships with England sharing the top spot with the Netherlands.

what time is that one on at? I know Wesley are playing Kilkenny too.
sutton park v mt temple is 4 pm in sutton park
think its at 4 in sutton park should be a good game
I hear the World cup might yet be moved, so it could be a while before those ranking points come into play.
Apparently they can't lay the pitch for another months, giving it only a few weeks to settle in before the event itself. Also, the stadium is still far from completed. The worlds premier hockey competition(or at least the second biggest) can't be played in a construction site.
Theres also a security worry for some teams, and it might be the case that there could be boycotts.
Possibilities discussed are Germany and Malaysia. Should it go to Germany again, it'll be a long time before the event is hosted. Probably not until the end of the summer.
yeah wesley are playing kilkenny at half three, could definetly be an upset on the cards.
Wesley are playing the school boys champions of england on thursday as well...shud b a cracker...ireland v england head on!!!
Push back at 4. Should be a good game. Last time, teams were close with Temple only having 10 players for majority of match losing by a goal.
So after all the big name coaching team coming in and changing the whole landscape of Irish hockey, Ireland remain in the same ranking position as four years ago..
