Leinster schoolgirls development programmes

As part of Leinster Schoolgirl's development, young enthusiastic coaches are required to help out youth hockey development programmes planned for early in 2010.

These initiatives are an excellent opportunity to further your own coaching credentials within the Leinster branch.

Code of Ethics Courses, including sections on child protection, are a mandatory requirement and it is hoped that this scheme will, in itself, become a developmental initiative for young up-and-coming coaches who wish to pursue a coaching career.

Please send a brief application to Stuart Ferguson, the development co-ordinator for Leinster schoolgirl hockey at stuart@live.ie, outlining your coaching credentials and achievements if you wish to take part in the future of Schoolgirl Hockey in Leinster.

Think this is a great initiative as I'm sure there are loads of people involved with hockey that would like to give something back. Frequently a school might need a coach who might simply not know that they are looking. In particular the boys side of the game at primary/secondary school level could really be developed if coaches were available to coach in schools.

A basic social networking site could be created where players/past players/coaches/players interested in coaching add a little bio about themselves. They could include coaching experience and/or if they are interested in coaching etc. Important resources could be shared, session plans/coaching availabilities/drills/looking for matches/discussion forums/blogs etc. See http://tinyurl.com/yjomu7t

Schools could go to this side and put up an ad or directly contact potential coaches if they are interested in starting a hockey program in the school, I think it would encourage them as it would reduce the hassle of finding coaches etc. College students and possibly transition year students might be a good group to target as potential coaches.

Sounds complicated but it's not really.
