Gareth Borland and Rory O’Donoghue have announced their respective U-16 and U-18 panels for the upcoming interprovincial series which will be played in UCD on October 2-4.
Borland includes the first player from famed GAA academy St Declan’s, Cabra, Shane Dempsey, in the panel. Dempsey is a product of the St Brendan’s/PP youth system and is currently training with the Clontarf men's team.
Ireland U-16 internationals David Cole, Ross Canning and Jeremy Duncan return for another year at this level.
The U-18 side has plenty of international experience too with Ireland A panellist Shane O’Donoghue captaining the side. Dundalk’s Andrew Shekleton is another of last year’s European champions to be involved once again as are Neal Megarity and Richard Sykes.
Rob Burke, David McCrea, Shane Madeley, Jeffrey Spillane, Mark Ryan, Tom Samuel and 15-year-old goalkeeper Mark Ingram move up from the Irish U-16s.

Go On the Mighty Margo!!!
Once again we have a tournamament organised when the international team is playing. Do we have that many spectators that we can split them.
Also the kids should be watching the international team.
Munster up on Thursday so they can play two matches on a Friday has to be one of the most bizzar bits of organisation I have seen. The boys and the girls should have similar formats all played over two days to save money and to help the kids keep up their education. The Munster kids are missing two days from school, not ideal.
11:29 - i'm guessing your the same commenter that has weighed in with the same points in three other stories.
Points are valid and well noted but it is getting tiresome. It is not likely to be changed at this point so let these players, for whom this is a mighty honour, get on with this competition and leave your squabbles for your Branch AGM or post an email to the IHA competition's committee rather than repeating your complanits ad nauseum on here.
Very touchy...
its a shame the the international team are playing in ulster when all underage is being played in dublin - but I believe we were due to travel to scotland and it was changed and scotland would not travel to dublin!! It would have been a great festival of hockey to have the U16/U18 boys in UCD and after the matches to put the full senior squad on display - it shows the boys see what is possible
Its fine in theory to have senior internationals on after the interpro games and give the players a chance to see the senior team play and aspire to that.
However if your preparing a team for interpros you want them to focus on their own tournament and rest etc.
Additionally senior management should be at the underage interpros watching the matches and spotting talent for the future, so as to ensure they have a knowledge of both the players in the pipeline and the areas in which these players need to develop.
Do feel sorry for Munster when they have to fork out more than the rest for accomodation etc, Could Ulster not have played twice on the Friday? and Munster in the Afternoon and allow them to travel on the day?
Seems like IHA are more interested in Senior teams than grass roots and they have little or no interest in running the tournament cost effectively
Go On the Super Scotty!!!
go on de miner!!!!!!!
well done to all players selected!!have the match times for u16 and 18 boys come out yet?
surely the ulster squads will be out the same costs for accommodation as the munster players.
The costs are shared equally by all the squads. So the extra nights stay is paid for by both Leinster and Ulster. All bills go into the pot and then are divided equally. The only real difference this year is that the players pay for their food.
Ulster are down on Friday I think so one nights less accomadation required.
best of luck shane, del
Leinster Hockey Website is up and running... at last!!
GO ON DAGG!! SANDFORD!!!
Yes. If I'm right, that's Sandford's first player in an U16 or U18 Squad since 2004/2005. Well done George.
george dagg - anything to Trevor or Gary?
yeah Trevor is his uncle!
Great to see that there is now a nice range of talent not just the kh wesley and andrews.
Funny enough if Trevor is his uncle so is Gary!!!!
