UCD draw tough ISC-defence opener

UCD will begin the defence of their women's ESB Irish Senior Cup with the toughest tie of the first round drawn today when they host Cork C of I at Belfield on October 10.

Both sides are likely to be much changed from the 2008/09 vintage with Roisin Flinn moving to Old Alex and Holly Jenkinson on her way to Railway Union while Australian Michaela Mihailou is no longer with the Munster side.

Nonetheless, it looks the stand-out tie of the first round which was drawn at the Hooked conference in front of an audience of 120 coaches from clubs all around Ireland.

Hermes play Trinity in the only all-Leinster tie. Leinster league champions Railway travel to Victorians while Corinthian host last year's finalists Pegasus. Pembroke face Lurgan on home turf while Glenanne have a tough opener at St Mark's, facing IHT winners and ISC semi-finalists Ulster Elks.

National champions Loreto, Alex and Bray all received byes to the second round, set for November 7.

First round draw (October 10): UCD v Cork C of Ireland; Cork Harlequins v Belfast Harlequins; Victorians v Railway Union; Corinthian v Pegasus; Pembroke Wanderers v Lurgan; Glenanne v Ulster Elks; Hermes v Dublin University
Byes to second round (November 7): Ballymoney; Ards; Lisnagarvey; Loreto; Old Alex; Randalstown; UCC; Armagh; Bray
