Ireland set for international triple bill

Paul Revington has named three sets of squads for what promises to be a hectic 12 day schedule that will see Ireland potentially play eight full international fixtures.

The first panel sees 18 players travel to Paris for a mid-week battle with the French on September 23 and 24.

From the side that played in the Europeans, Andy McConnell returns to the panel after missing the tournament with exams while Phelie Maguire, David Ames and Mikey Watt (pictured) come in too.

The scoring threat of John Jermyn, Stephen Butler and Timmy Cockram are among the absentees while Alan Giles is the other player not to travel from the Euro squad.

Geoff McCabe appears to have shaken off a hand injury sustained in Belgium while Watt features for the first time since picking up an injury in the Champion’s Challenge.

Argentina have still yet to fully confirm their trip to Dublin but are pencilled in for a three-match series in on September 28 and 30 and October 1. Paul Gleghorne, Butler, Cockram, Jermyn, Giles, Johnny Jackson and Chris Cargo are additions for this panel with Ames and Peter Caruth stepping out of the panel.

The third series in quick succession takes place in Banbridge with a three game series against Scotland with the panel currently extended still further.

Mark Ruddle, Adam Pritchard, Karl Burns, Mick Maguire, Keith Black, Andrew Herbert, Simon Todd, Gareth Watkins and Peter Blakeney all return to get their chance to reprise their Celtic Cup heroics.

are these international fixtures going to have any effect on the first round of Div 1 matches? are the internationals going to be missing?

I will post a story this evening outlining what Paul Revington has made the players available for with reagrd to the next two months or so for the build-up to the WCQ.

As far as I know they will be missing from league matches if cancellations are not granted.

I have no problem with the internationals being on this weekend but it does begger belief that they have scheduled the U18/\u16 inter-pros as well for the same weekend. In hockey we have a small audience and to split it is really silly. How is Rev's going to see developing players. Its not his fault its the administrators, no thought again. Its also rumoured that Munster play on Friday morning which means they have to come up on Thursday and incur extra cost for all the provinces. Organisation, what organisation!

Yet again we have an example of a fractured organisation with no leadership from the top. The Junior Age group tournaments are the ones where we get new parents and players who may be wavering between sports interested in the game and where the new talent will be emerging from. It is also as was noted a chance for the small ( and dwindling further if the gates at the Champions Challenge in Dublin are anything to go by ) amount of people who watch hockey and to split it seems ludicris in the extreme. No other country would deny their young players and hockey players and fans a chance to watch the senior international team as watching the game and learning from it is part of the development process.

Move the U18/U16's Now and get the organisation right for it this year not for next

1.10pm - you are joking right? after all the rows over costs, training times and so on last year because of rearranged interpros and their problems with timing you suggest moving it two and a bit weeks before the tournament.

It was moved to this time at a meeting months and months ago with provinces booking hotels ages ago.

The WCQ's arrangement just a month ago which had the knock-on effect on organising friendlies for the national team

It will be more expensive this year due to an extra nights stay.
How could an organiser not see that Munster should not be travelling on a Thursday.
Its also an extra nights stay for parents, in one of the most expensive cities in the world. So its ok to make all pay extra due to the poor organisation.
At the moment most are struggling for cash or is it only the wealthy who are allowed to play and support.

Don't dare move the JAG Interpros. Some of those players have trained all summer and they should not be penalised due to lack of thought by the IHA who have taken over the running of all inter pro competitions this year. One sure way to have kids give up the game. If the senior internationals are not until the evening have them at the same venue as the JAG competitions and then everyone is in the same place or would that be too forward thinking!!!

Some have not finished trials others from what I hear have not even started yet.
So its going to be a worth while expense.
