Corinthian 10 (Lucas Piccioli 3, Glen Holmes 3, Brian Doherty 2, Chris Pelow, Andrew Sutton) Avoca 1 (Stephen Brownlow)
Corinthian made light work of their return to competitive action to gift Andrew Cronje a first win at the helm of the reds. Lucas Piccioli made it 3-0 in jig-time with an innovative hat-trick before Glenn Holmes got in on the act with a lengthy run and upright reverse-stick finish.Brian Doherty netted the fifth from play, staying in the circle after a corner had gone awry and Holmes made it 6-0 at the break.
Sebastian Percivalle pulled off a string of top saves but the scoring scarcely slowed down in the second half.
Doherty's drag-flick continued the goal-rush - a slight quibble may be that it was the sole penalty corner conversion from eight efforts - and Holmes became the second to complete his hat-trick, rebounding Davy Carson's shot.
Chris Pelow made it 9-0 before Stephen Brownlow got Avoca's consolation. Andrew Sutton, though, scrambled over the line for 10-1 late on. The reds, despite a few early teething problems with the new rules, look sharp ahead of a second round tie with Pembroke.

Corinthians looked in great shape last night. Played some really good stuff and should do very well this year
Avoca struggled to compete and looked tired. Some Great saves from their keeper and managed to put together some passages of nice play but not enough to deal with Piccoli and Pelow.
Good lesson for the Div 2 side what top hockey will be like this year, need a lot of work
8 attempts and the one he did score was rubbish
Avoca really need to take a good look at themselves. They have plenty of good players but conceding 10 against any club team in the whole of Ireland is simply not good enough.Never mind against Corinthians!
This result really does show how far a gap there is between Div 1 and Div 2.
Never mind how weston did against Pembroke. That was by far pembrokes 2nd team.
Must say though thought weston have come along well.
I wouldn't mind having a Rubbish drag flick like doherty
