News in brief: Schools qualifier cancelled

* The schooboy's All-Ireland qualifiers, scheduled for this afternoon, have been cancelled after High School and Dundalk pulled out of the competition. The upshot means that Mount Temple and Sutton Park qualify for the tournament proper which takes place on October 22-24.

They join Wesley, St Andrew's and Kilkenny who had pre-qualified.

* Hockey players picked up numerous sporting honours in the last week away from the astroturf. Railway Union's Emer Dillon (picured, left) came off the bench to help her native Cork to the All-Ireland camogie crown. Fermoy HC's Orla Cotter started the game.

Three Rock's George Dockrell and Graeme McDonnell picked up man-of-the-match awards for Ireland's U-19 cricketers as they won their World Cup qualifier in Canada with seven wins from eight games.

Meanwhile, Greenfields' star midfielder Dora Gorman captained the Republic of Ireland's U-17 football side in their recent two game series with Italy.

Highschool pulled out beacuse of a lack of squad members.

Sorry, no. I believe the blue book is available and is being distrubuted in the next few days so fixtures can be obtained from there.

This seems like a shambles, though when one looks at the web site there's no surprise, Leinster Hockey expects matches to go ahead this weekend but yet there is no information on the website and no blue book.
