Men's Division Two Round-up: Week Three

Weston 0 Avoca 4 (Stephen Brownlow 2, Jamie Clabburn 2)
A stellar second half performance saw Avoca beat Weston for the second time in a week as both Stephen Brownlow and Jamie Clabburn bagged a brace. Scoreless at half-time, Brownlow broke the deadlock with a fine reverse from the top of the circle and doubled up with a drag-flick.

Clabburn's slap-shot and deflection brought up the four in a fiery second half which saw both sides reduced to ten men - six yellows between the sides in their two encounters.

Bray 1 (Stephen Jones) Dublin University 3 (Andy Gray 2, Chris Tyrell)
Andy Gray's double under-pinned Trinity's second win of the division two campaign. Both strikes came in the first half, the first from good interplay between the front three with Chris Tyrell getting the assist and new arrival from Exeter Sean Flynn also involved. The second came from a near-impossible angle on his reverse late in the first half. Stephen Jones pulled one back for the Co Wicklow hosts from a rebound after Jack Hegarty had kept out a penalty corner. But Tyrell got the vital third for the Trin to take the game when he was set free by Craig Moore to round the Bray keeper.

Navan 1 (Keith Howell) Suttonians 2 (Richie Wormald, Reuben Holden)
Suttonians keep their place at the top of the heap with a late Reuben Holden penalty stroke taking the win at King's Hospital. As a fortnight ago, the side's were evenly matched but it was the Badgers who took the lead with Keith Howell the man on target. Richie Wormald, however, had the sides level in the second half and Holden took the winner from the flick spot with four minutes remaining to be the only unbeaten side left in the division.

Sutton had 13 penalty corners...could have been a lot more were it not for some terrible finishing

Avoca v Weston hard fought battle in the first half. Avoca came out a different team in the second and played really great hockey - well done lads

all 4 goals came from counter attacks is what happened!!!

Correction- 1 was a penalty corner, one came from open play when Avoca had possesion, 2 came from counter attacks.

counter attack to get the short corner............

does that change the result? get over it. well done Avoca. To Weston commenter - it is impossible to win 4-0 by fluke. it was fully deserved. Looking forward to a test on Saturday against Suttonians...

Whatever about Suttons finishing chap, Navans back four played very well. Alex McKeever slid to clear a ball off the line and Emmet in goals and Alan Davis in the middle didnt deserve to be on the losing side on Saturday. Looking forward to Avoca next week.....kind of.

so you think a back 4 that plays well gives away 13 corners? me thinks not.

league certainly will be interesting this year. Every team has dropped points already

From the fixture lists I've looked at Suttonians are away to Bray next week and not Avoca

love the way sides who lose try to consol themselves or big themselves up by making excuses.

lost 2-1 but defended well....

conceded 4 but all against the run of play.....

bottom line is no matter how well you play or how many you 'take off the line' its the results that count. a win is a win, a loss is a loss. enough said

Thats right they gave away 13 short corners, not 13 goals, Navans defence did what they had to. Anyway yis weren't able to beat Emmet with any of your shorts, so no worries!

where exactly did i say it was a fluke?????? i certainly dont see it!!! didnt mean to come across as a sore loser there apologies!!! i was just stating the fact that we failed to defend properly when we lost the ball!!! if i wanted to make excuses i would have said we missed 3 sitters!! good luck in your "test" sat.....hope it doesn't bite ya on the behind!!!

Don't belittle defeated teams who try to "consol" themselves(learn to spell/type, by the way). Teams try to take positives from losses. The fact that Navan were conceding buckets of goals last year and have tightened up extremely well should be applauded. Obviously they still have work to do in the tackling department but they can just add that to the to-do list.

Don't belittle peoples comments with Grammar Policing.

Well done Trin - keep up the good work.

Alright, apologies for the cheap shot. Just annoyed that the likes of Navan and Weston continue to try improve their games and get no respect for it. If every team put in the effort to play to their utmost Div. 2 wouldn't be in such a state, I reckon.
