Pembroke dish out third thrashing

Men's Division One:
UCD 0 Pembroke 8 (Conor Harte 3, Alan Sothern 2, Alan Giles, Maurice Elliott, Justin Sherriff)
Pembroke continued their blistering start to the domestic season with UCD this time feeling the brunt of their array of fire-power. Alan Sothern started the rout and Conor Harte added another couple to his tally from the top of the circle at corner-time and the students, though they matched Pembroke at times for ball pace and had a couple of chances, found the 'Broke just too good and already have a goal difference of plus 29.

Just to note, I'm open to correction on the goalscorers here. I was in contact with three people, none of whom were particularly certain but this was the general consensus!

scorers correct.Harte with three corner strikes, the rest of the goals from play.pembroke looked stunning on the counter.

Nobody will stop Pembroke or Glens this year. If they both play to their potential they will meet in the Ail final. 100 %. Two best teams by a country mile. Pembroke being the strongest but would never write the Glens off. Thats my bet.

Quite an impressive start from Pembroke, but they've only had 3'weak' teams so far.
UCD still a weak side, can't say they improved a lot since last year.

the shear speed at which pembroke break is incredible

pembroke ar a class act, an no body will stop them this season. th only thing that will stop them winning every trophy on offer is how far the can go in europe! last 8 i reckon in europe!! and it pains me to say it as a railway player!!

Everyone is getting a little bit excited here with Pembroke. They have yet to play a decent side in the league (no disrespect to Railway/UCD & Clontarf) and there is no doubt that they are a class outfit but lets just wait and see how they get on against the likes of Glenanne and Rovers who will definitely get in amongst them!

Last 8 in Europe!!!!!
Slightly optimistic here. They beat a Scotish side and thats why they progressed. Had they had the group that Glenanne had, they would be out of Europe!
The 6-1 defeat by Rotterdam tells the truth of where they lie in the grand scheme of things. Irish hockey has come a long way but it is light years away from the top teamns in Europe.

id really have to disagree irish hockey on a whole may be a few years away but having seen the rotterdam broke game i think pembroke are only a few steps away not light years! last 8 is a very very strong possibility!

would have to say its very much dependent on the draw. as a group runner-up, there's going to be lots of tough teams lurking and all the favourites in Barca went through as winners - Polo, Rotterdam, Uhlenhorst and Terrassa, wouldn't fancy any of those.

To the comment about ucd not being a good team. Well they brought YM and Mobkstown very close, losing both games by a single goal. I wasn't there last night, so I'm guessing that ucd had an off day or that broke were just immense!

reports are that UCD are very much better than previous years. However, at this stage Pembroke are a league ahead of these teams. No fault of UCD's who are trying to push on

If UCD would be so much better this year, why are they still in the same position as last year: bottom of the league, pointless. Great for the college boys they get close results, but in the end it's about points.

glens will beat Rovers comfortably.

I think people have to remember Rotterdam are a professional side, they finished the game fairly strong compared to a tired pembroke outfit. As far as I can see from the highlights, Andy McConnell, Maurice Elliot and Justin Sheriff seemed to have had fairly decent chances...tiredness may have been the resulting fact for their misses. Also Glenanne lost that game against the Poles due to several silly errors by the glens (doesnt help having 2 games in 20 hours). In my opinion Pembroke would have beaten that Polish team.

jus wondering wat th story is wit division 2 runner up? is it th same as last yr wit a playoff gainst 9th in div 1!! i think it shud be 1 up 1 down, seein as there is only 5 teams in div 2!!

'glens to beat rovers comfortably'

They may win the match but it will not be comfortable. If rovers play well they can win it.

glens will not be looking forward to the rovers match. hockey being the winner

Rovers will get a wake up call against the Glens.

no it shouldnt be 1 up 1 down.....if the second placed team in div 2 is good enough to beat the second last team in div 1 then surely they should play in div 1....if not....as you were!!!

re div 1 / div 2 comments, it's a prime time for da branch to have a look @ league re-structuring in conjunction with IHA?

surley pembroke are fast outgrowing the league and must become ireland's first professional club? glens following in their steps too...

the IHL to become separate full time league, with teams relegated to/promoted from leinster div 1??? teams in UK often travel much greater distances to play than would be necessary for clubs here...

It is unrealistic to create a league just because one team is outgrowing the rest. Not every club has a permanent income(car park) that pembroke have so to create the IHL each weekend would basically put the costs squarely on the players of the clubs that do not have the finances. There are probably only 3 clubs in the entire country that would be able to sustain an All Ireland league.
Every country has teams that dominate for several years, it used to be Garvey, now its pembroke the cycle will carry on.

Pity to read negative comments re full IHL.Until we get an All -Ireland league(based on IHL format)we will always be 2nd class in Europe and world hockey. We can only reach our full potential with our best teams/players playing against each other in competitive games every week. Every other serious sport gave up local/provincial competitions years ago.Irish sporting public has no interest in Leinster/Ulster/Munster hockey all played between 1-3 pm on a Saturday.
This is not rocket science to work that out,how could anyone be expected to attend Leinster Senior hockey matches on a regular basis at present.
Branch has no interest in presentation,no ball boys ,no score boards,no public add.no programmes,no flag poles.Even hockey players(juniors) could not be bothered in supporting their Senior clubs matches. All playing at same time. What a joke.I suppose all other sports and rest of Europe are wrong.
Until we have a complete culture change and clear out of all the deadwood at Branch and IHA level we will NEVER make any progress and
our PROGRESSIVE clubs will be wasting their time ,energy, talent and money. To many vested interests and provincial mind-sets in decision making positions.
Just look at new proposals to change IHA constitution,an effort to keep same old faces in power.
God Help Us.
