Code of Ethics; University Challenge: News in brief

* A Code of Ethics: Basic Awareness Course will be held on Sunday, December 13 at UCD from 10am to 2pm. The course is a requirement for all coaches involved with U-18 hockey players.

The course content included two main areas: code of ethics for sport and child protection and this course is limited to 16 participants. The cost is €20 and to register, contact Jantien Findlater on 086 170 8183.

* Railway Union ladies hockey club are inviting all in Leinster to take on the challenge to see which club is the cleverest as they host a "University Challenge" night in the Baggot Inn to raise funds to help UCC hockey club. The club suffered huge losses due to the recent floods in Cork with the majority of the club's equipment destroyed in the damage done to the Mardyke (above). Their pitch is currently being assessed for damage, too.

As such, all clubs are invited to battle it out for the title of "Brainiest hockey club" on Tuesday, December 15 at the Baggot Inn with action getting underway at 7.30pm. The price if €40 for a table of four. Email Sinead Walsh on sineadwalsh00@hotmail.com to confirm your entry.

I think it is very suspicious that the University Challenge is held when the Students are in Exam......obviously a very clever ploy by Railway supported by other club so that they're not embarrassed by 'The Students'

would love to go but play mens hockey and train on Tuesdays. Great initiative Railway and a good cause but training comes first? You'll never get a night that suits everyone but i'd say you're ruling out all mens 1st teams anyway

We will accept all donations we can get either.
If you have training you can still help!! :)

I know a lot of clubs train on a monday. Stop trying to put a downer on the event. Lets show the hockey spirit guys, If it was your club, you would be greatful for the help, and this i have to say is a very generous idea. Well done railway and hopefully we can get UCC back playing on home turf.

Completely off topic but has anyone any idea what happened to south east wanderers, they don't seem to be listed on the leinster branch anymore? Played them on their really nice new pitch last year and they seemed to have plenty of players.

Apparently none of the questions are going to be about Judge Judy, Jeremy Kyle's, Ellen DeGeneres' or Oprah's shows, so they probably wouldn't really suit the students anyway!!!

Well done Railers! Great support appreciated

Why not have the gig in in your own Bar, which is great venue?

This is a great initiative, if every team in Leinster could send at least one team it would raise a lot of much needed funds.

I agree with Godfrey that Railway has a great bar and location but they are right to host it in town as it's the most central point.

Might I suggest a special prize for the team which comes the farthest? For teams like Mullingar, Weston, N.Kildare etc it would be difficult enough for them to get in. Also a prize for best dressed nerd team..who cares if you want to score..nothing is sexier than brains, just ask Mr. Lecter.
