McDonnell hat-trick makes it five from five

Leinster Women's Division One
Railway Union 3 (Jean McDonnell 3) Corinthian 0
Jean McDonnell (pictured, left) crashed in her second hat-trick of the season to hand Railway their fifth consecutive league win in their bid to retain the division one title.

For the sharp-shooter, she has now amassed 10 goals in five league games this season. Her first came with the last touch of a frustrating first half for the Park Avenue hosts as Corinthian set up a strong defensive wall with Susie Geoffroy and Sophie Blennerhassett, for the most part, keeping Railway outside the five-metre line.

But, after Patricia O'Dwyer, Emer Dillon and Emma Smyth had speculative pot-shots go wide and Cecelia Joyce deflecting wide from close range, McDonnell finally broke the deadlock with a shin-high piledriver that took a touch off a defensive stick at Railway's fourth corner.

She potted a simple second moments after the break from Hannah de Burgh-Whyte's long corner before a crisp hit from Railway's fifth penalty corner made it 3-0. The reds remained compact to the end in the face of some serious pace, though a single chance of note from their only corner was the sum of their attacking threat as Railway hit one of their higher gears.

We must have a great Ireland A team if this is the sort of quality in that side! Do they get sent to any tournaments?

This girl should be playing in senior team like Emma Smyth!

She scores more goals than anyone else in country, nuff said, the rest she can be coached to do!

Certainly worth giving the girl a chance, will get us a few goals and is quick over the ground.
