Pembroke and Glens to set weekend alight

Pembroke and Glenanne is always the one to watch out for when the fixture list produced but the way the season has panned out to date, today’s fixture has been elevated to the first defining point of this Leinster league season. Both hold 100pc records and have been mildly inconvenienced en route.

The stats – as provided by the Glenanne website – show little to separate the sides with four wins and two draws a piece in their last ten.

Over 70 minutes, the last three encounters have ended level most recently last May in the hotly contested IHL final.

Pembroke are without veterans Gordy Elliott and Justin Sherriff while Stephen Butler made his return to the fray for the Glens last Saturday against Cookstown. His duel with David Harte and Adam Pritchard at corner time could prove a central battle.

Elsewhere, Corinthian will be looking to make up for the dropped points at Park Avenue earlier this season when they face Railway Union.

Fingal, meanwhile, will need victory at YM to have any chance of getting back into the chase for IHL places. Three Rock host Clontarf at Grange Road for whom Mukthar Ahmed has moved on to Portrane in recent weeks after a brief stint at the Bullring.

In division two, Avoca face Dublin Uni for the second time this season, aiming to keep in touch with high-flying Suttonians who host Bray.

Sunday sees many of the major players in the Mills Cup make their seasonal entry into the competition – making it a double weekend for almost every club. Avoca face Monkstown in the borough derby while north of the Liffey Clontarf battle with Fingal for local bragging rights.

Pembroke are already through to the last eight having brought forward their tie with Trinity which they won comfortably.

Glenanne should have one it. More chances just missed a few shorts and two balls from perfect crosses in front of open goal were miscued.
Fair play to Pembroke for converting their chances though. Made all the difference on the day.

Pembroke bossed Glenanne off the pitch for the majority of the game and took their chances well,Glens had about 20mins where they were on top in terms of posession but never looked like dangering David Hartes goal really,no shots that I can recall and circle penetrations were weak
