Suttonians extend Division Two lead

Men's Division Two
Suttonians 6 (Daryl Reamsbottom 2, Richie Wormold 2, Conor Gillett, Ed Hipwell) Bray 3 (Simon Cox 3)Suttonians extended their lead to six points in division two as a second half goal-rush proved decisive against Bray, profiting from Avoca's late concession against Dublin University, to hold the box seat going into the Christmas break. Daryl Reamsbottom scored the only goal of the first half before Simon Cox cancelled out that lead early in the second period. But three quick Suttonians' goals - the pick of them from Richie Wormold - stretched the lead out to 4-1 and though Cox pulled one back there was no way back as the hosts added another two goals to make it 6-2 before Cox completed his hat-trick. He and Reuben Holden both picked up yellow cards in the aftermath of the game's ninth goal.

Navan 2 (Ruairi Clarke, Simon McKeever) Weston 3 (Phil Barron, Enda Tucker, Simon Pearson)Simon Pearson's winner was the highlight of an otherwise scrappy affair as Weston recovered twice from a deficit to eventually take the points at their former home, King's Hospital, against Navan. The Co Meath club twice led in the first half via Ruairi Clarke and Simon McKeever but were first pegged back by Phil Barron's drag-flick and then a corner strike from Enda Tucker in the second half to make it 2-2. And Pearson popped up with a neat drag before angling a chip-hit over the advancing goalkeeper to take the three points and place themselves seven points off top with a game in hand.

Avoca 4 (Stephen Brownlow 3, Enda Gallanagh) Dublin University 4 (Henry Butler, Craig Moore, Stu Cinnamond, Chris Tyrell)
Chris Tyrell grabbed Trinity a last-gasp point to end a run of three defeats but were ruing three times losing the lead in a topsy-turvy end to their pre-Christmas league campaign at Newpark. Henry Butler gave the students the lead but Enda Gallanagh's sublime effort recorded for the first of four levellers of the day; 1-1 at the break. Craig Moore volleyed home after a slightly skewed corner move popped his way from Andy Gray's stick before Stephen Brownlow began to show off his party-trick. He dragged in for 2-2. Stu Cinnamond got Trinity back in front with a top D smash only for Brownlow to zip in two corners for 4-3 with five minutes to go - his ninth in two games. But Tyrell found himself in the right place to tap home after Tolly Humphries invention to steal a point and dent Avoca's title hopes.

weston would be nothing without their player coach. it's a little unfair that div 1 players can simply drop down to div 2.

This league is far from sewn up. Suttonians have the upper hand going into the Christmas break but points have and will be dropped all over the place. Weston and Avoca still in with a good shout. Most competitive Div 2 in years. Pity theres only 6 teams!

Thats a pretty derisory comment 10.27 - how can the likes of Weston develop without the coaching experience from someone who has played at the highest level? Look at Saturdays scorers - P. Barron, E. Tucker and S. Pearson - all young players benefiting greatly from Alan Brownes coaching. The appointment of Alan is the 1st step in the long term development of the club, with particular emphasis on the younger players - he should be commended for taking on the challenge rather than slagged off by petty whingers. comment 10:27 is actually ridiculous! if anything its helping to strengthen the division and further the skills of the players already in div 2! obviously your a tad jealous whoever u are that you couldn't snap him up! looks like there were a few tight games in the division over the weekend which is great to see, unfortunately we were on the wrong end of the scoreline!

how is it unfair to have division 1 players drop down? i find it refreshing to have a player of such a high caliber to drop down and take a team like weston and take them to the next level, weston were third from bottom and now are third from top. so i think credit needs to go to the work browne has done in such a short space of time with the team.

i also dont agree with the league being sewn up at this stage, still over half a season to go.

yeah but in fairness Sutts aren't dropping any points.

Come off it 10:27, don't be sour. Theres a committed squad in weston this year. Half our team would waltz into other sides.

Sutts dropped points against Navan 1st game of the season did they not? Anyway they have a good lead so far, fair play to them. Thats not to say that they may not drop points after Christmas though. Anything can happen

They wont

sutton played weston in a cup game a few weeks ago, and weston won 2-0. There's nothing sayin that weston wont beat them in the league, and weston also have a game in hand. i think weston are the dark horses in div 2 but they could go up with a few good results. Big set back for Avoca after drawing with trinity. 1st weston 2nd sutton 3rd avoca.

Mate u got it all wrong... Sutts got this in the bag!!

Ah lads, don't take the bait on that comment, it's obviously designed to stoke a reaction and cause a backlash. The more quality standard Div 1 players in Div 2, the better. And Weston have some quality players apart from Alan Browne, so it's a nothing comment. Also, Great to see Navan really competing this year and making it a very competitive league. The new year should be very interesting with us, Sutts, having to play Weston 3 times and Avoca 2 more times so the league far from over!!

Some people just come onto this just to spread bs! no one knows more than Sutton that this league far from over. We have 8 tough games to come and we will not underestimate any of them. True that Weston knocked us out of cup although i wouldn't read too much from that. Match was played in a gale, with a jammy goal and a stroke sealing it - Sutton had more SCs. It should be a close finish though and we are all looking forward to the fight!

Browne wasn't even playing for weston in the sutts cup game. Sutton are in a great position but they've been in great positions before. They know theres still a long way to go. Best of luck to them.

Comment 12.04, Browne was playing in the cup game against Sutts. Unless I shook his twin brothers hand.

yeah u did...Maximus Dimitry Browne played!!!

when have Sutton been in a great position before? the closest they came was second and they were never even in that title race...there is no reason to believe they will bottle it. we have played friendlys against them, weston and avoca and they were only team to beat us.
