The IHA announced they will implement the ‘auto-pass’ rule for the senior interprovincials in March. It follows the recent announcement by the FIH that, from May, the ruling will be introduced for all international hockey.
The Competitions Committee approved the recommendation which came from David Passmore, Gene Muller and Paul Revington following the successful integration in the Irish Hockey Leagues.
Speaking about the move, High Performance Director David Passmore said “The inclusion of the auto pass rule in the Irish Hockey League has been very well received by coaches, players and spectators alike.
"It was of no surprise that the FIH have now introduced the rule at international level from May. The inclusion of this rule at both IHL and now interpro level has been an innovative venture that will help give our players an added edge moving forward, whilst making the game faster, easier to watch and more entertaining.”

Do they plan on bringing the autopass into the domestic league in leinster next season?
I was speaking to Ray O'Connor the other week and he already proposed it be introduced from January 1 this year in the Leinster League.
It was turned down but it would seem inevitable that it will be introduced across the board.
Is this just the auto-pass rule? Not the full EHL rules like 4 Quarters, green = 2 mins, no breaking the line on SCs?
I'd like to see them all brought in with the exception of the quarters. Still undecided about that.
The information I have received only refers to the auto-pass rule so far.
No quarters ever!
has the leinster squad been announced?
any word on Irish Under 16 boys coaches yet?
If they are going to bring it in they need to bring it in across the board, every league in Ireland must take it and not just Leinster.
They're have been plenty of rule changes over the years and everyone one has improved the game.
Bring it on!
no wonder leinster are looked down upon, not even one open trial shambles...seems like leinster is run like an some private club. can you comfirm this steve?
clubs proposed players for trials.
All clubs were invited to nominate players for the Leinster panels, apparently only two clubs responded to the call.
As for whether open trials were possible, there is very little time in the coming weeks in the schedule for training let alone trials with indoor, IHL, U-21 interpros, ISC.
All Inter-pros.with exception of u-16,u-18, should be scrapped.not only on cost grounds but they serve NO purpose whatsoever re selection for Irish squads.Irish players are selected from performances at Irish panel sessions and their general performances in Provincial and Irish competitions. No player who has talent will be or has been ignored by this method. The cost of Inter-Pros estimated at €55,000 last season(increasingly born by players) is no way justified and money would be better spent on hiring an extra delevoptment officer.
Inter-pros are outdated and are only an excuse for the blazers(same lot for last -20 yrs.) to have a booze-up or get to-gether.IHA badly needs modern ideas and a real shake up.Mens team is now ranked in 3rd division in world rankings,2nd.division in European rankings as we were in 1999.Same people have been in charge since then.No great legacy I am afraid.
Bring on AGM .Cant wait to hear excuses.
Johnny Waterson was 100% correct to write what he said.
Any news on the leinster squad for the under 21 interpro's, has it even been selected yet?
Can anybody clarify please - Are the new FIH rules or the existing IHL rules being played this weekend. If you read both they ain't the same thing at all......
