Ireland’s veterans look certain to accept an invitation to take part in the 2009 International Masters Hockey Tournament in Hong Kong next October. A squad has been put together since last December and with the hope to begin training in earnest in March.
A get-together is planned at Lisnagarvey next month but, while the guts of the squad is already together, potential recruits aged over 40 on December 31, 2008 can still stake a claim to play in the competition by contacting Sam Ireland (sam.ireland@btinternet.com).
They should have played at a senior level (senior Ireland/Interprovincial/Leinster senior league) and still be in good physical shape.
This is a serious undertaking and looking at the teams who have already announced they are playing (Australia, New Zealand, Germany etc), the standard will be very high.
