Women's IHL: Hermes 2 Pembroke 0

Hermes 2 (Jenny Burke, Aoife McCarthy) Pembroke 0

Hermes retook top spot in group two from Cork Harlequins, looking good value for their 2-0 win over Pembroke. It maintains their 100pc record but a lack of bonus point means they are not quite in the clear just yet.

They created six corner chances in the first half while Nikki Evans and Jenny Burke looked dangerous while, on the break, Louisa Moore was always a threat for the purples. Neither broke the deadlock, though. Indeed, it wasn't until late in the third quarter that Evans - after a number of crucial Jane Coyne interventions - finally won the decisive corner.

Burke knocked it in and within two minutes Aoife McCarthy secured three points from another penalty corner switch. Pembroke won their first dangerous set-piece in the 67th minute but failed to convert and missed out on a bonus.

It was a poor match to watch. The self-pass rule was not really taken advantage of, and both teams looked a little sluggish. Hermes looked better going forward. Pembroke struggled to make anything of some good positions in midfield and never really looked like threatening the Hermes goal.

I disagree i think Hermes looked very strong and appear to be improving as the season goes. The only thing that appears to be lacking is a killer instinct in front of goal .. Jenny Burke looks like she is getting back into form and a threat. Hermes made pembroke keeper look good at times.

However, I would agree that Pembroke didnt look they would do much and ran out of ideas early in the game.
