Railway Union 2 (Paul O'Brien, Bruce Thompson) Glenanne 4 (Graham Shaw 2, Joe Brennan, Eddie O'Malley)
Railway gave Glenanne a fright in the sheeting rain tonight at Park Avenue, taking an early lead and drawing level with 15 minutes to go but the class of Graham Shaw grinded out the three points.
Paul O'Brien opened the scoring early on, sweeping into an open goal. Graham Shaw roofed a reverse in response before Alan Browne had a raised effort ruled out meaning the Glens had to wait until the stroke of half-time for Joe Brennan to drag in their second and a deserved lead.
But Railway are nothing if not dogged and - spurred on by Kenny Carroll's direct long passes through the heart of the Glenanne defence - their battling qualities forged an equaliser as Bruce Thompson tapped in Mark English's free.
Glenanne were down to ten at that stage, Clinton Murphy binned for a pair of physical challenges, but back to eleven, they finally made the game safe. Shaw's superb dribble and reverse made it 3-2 before Eddie O'Malley accurately converted from the top of the D.

glenanne must be really struggling if they have to play Shaw against railway what with the 14 games rule and everything. Were they only missing Butler
glenanne will struggle to finish top four this year.they will be battling to survive in division one in a few years
gary shaw, devon kehoe goulding and butler were all missing..fight relegation in couple years?? get real..
u guys make me laugh!!!!
lads never write off the glens. Different side with Shaw and Butler playing. They'll win something this year and won't be far off the top of the league...
Glenanne will just have to Buy in some players like the rest of your sorry clubs !
Remember these are European winners just a couple of months ago - They will win at least a cup this year

I agree. Not a Glens player,im actually a YM player.Glenanne dont have the all round talent, but they certainly have the mentality to win. This mentality, matched with a sprinkling of international talent (ie Butler and Shaw)means thay are always in the hunt for trophies. Not so sure about the future, but at present they have as good a chance as anyone of winning trophies.
Why is everyone so worried about their future as they have a great under 21 side?
first 2 matches were training sessions!!!
I really sensed the sarcasm in that u-21 comment. But lets be honest if any other leinster team made that final against pembroke, everyone would of thought that they had a good set-up for the future. Just because its glenanne it MUST mean that they were lucky!!
RE:"first 2 matches were training sessions!!!"
i hope ur setting ur sights a bit higher than ur first 2 opponents, no disrespect to KK or railway though.
Amazing to read comments about European Champions Glenanne from the usual chinless wonders.
They should concentrate their energy on improving the poor standard in their own clubs.
FYI,Glens won first Senior Leinster trophy 1995 and havent stopped winning since.1 Club Championship,2 ISC,1 IJC,5 Leinster Senior leagues,5 Mills Cups,6 Neville Cups, plus too many Junior competitions to mention plus a long list of Senior,u-age internationals never mind being back bone of Leinster teams for last 10 years.Remember last season, all the chinless wonders were out in force before Senior Inter-Pros.Not a peep after Leinster won.
There's plenty of work to be done in your clubs, plenty.
Love that last comment, Glenanne is a super hockey club. You just have to look at what is happening with the girls side of things! They may be rough and tough on the pitch and cause some unrest but off the pitch they are one of the only clubs who you can rely on to join you in the bar after a game and participate in other clubs fundraisers, showing their support.
European Champions Glenanne will do fine this season, they still have the same squad as last year with one or two new youngsters added - You dont need to change your team each year with 8 new players - to stay at the top, a Quality team only needs one or two players every couple of years.
As for the Glenanne Bashing its very boring at this stage - and really its just pathetic people who have pathetic lives trying to justify a pathetic existence.
