Fingal held Avoca at bay to advance with a 3-2 win in Newpark and now face a second round match-up with Three Rock Rovers at Grange Road.
The Airport side enjoyed the majority of possession but found their best opportunities came on the counter-attack, Andy Quinn getting the only goal of the first half from a swift breakaway.
Stephen Brownlow leveled early in the second half but a corner goal from Ben Chillingworth and a counter strike from Chris Neville put Fingal two clear before Fergal McGuinness got a deserved second for the hosts, who battled strongly against the division one side.

What was the score in the UCD game?
ucd beat naas 5-1 or something
then how the hell can UCD postpone their opener in the league vs Pembroke?????when they are playing friendlies and cup games???? inconsistent ruling here Steven..
because by the time most teams have played 5 or so friendlies UCD, trinity etc have barely had a chance to see what players they have.
You think it would be beneficial to have them go straight into the league opener against pembroke having played 2 neville cup games in 3 days and no other practice matches?
You can say "that's their problem" but it is a problem the branch have dealt with every year and the solution of postoping the opening two fixtures is one that is in the interest of giving everyone a fair chance to give a strong account of themselves. As long as the fixtures are played i dont see what the problem is, these are extenuating circumstances and should be met with accomadation as opposed to condemnation.
