Annadale and Cookstown to replay full match

In a statement issued this afternoon, the IHL Administration Committee upheld the original decision, made on December 1, 2008, to rearrange the fixture between Cookstown and Annadale in its entirety.

The IHL match between the sides was originally abandoned after the umpires declared the Coolnafranky pitch unsafe to continue, with Annadale leading 4-1 at the time.

IHL organisers subsequently ordered the game to replayed in its entirety. Annadale appealed the decision, with the IHL Appeals Commission receiving both written and oral submissions from representatives of the IHL Administration Committee and Annadale HC on December 22, 2008.

As a result the Administration Commission reached the decision to uphold the original decision, based on the following points:

- Both team Managers signed the Match Report Form on November 29, 2008 accepting the match had been abandoned.
- The IHL Committee did not refer to the match being "interrupted" as defined in Guideline 2.1 of the IHL notes. However the intent was to address the matter based on the Match Report Form received, which indicated “match abandoned".
- The interpretation of Guideline 2.1 by the Appeal Commission is that rearrangement, when impossible to resume on the same day, indicates the match be rescheduled in its entirety.

Some result for Cookstown!

Why did it take a month for this decision and 2 weeks for legal opinion? Having read the reasons for this decision, I would suggest in future if your team is winning
that the team manager refuses to sign the match card unless it says
'match interupted'. Conversely, if your team is losing, I would suggest the team manager not sign the match card unless it says 'match abandonded'. The IHL administration committee seem to be operating 'on a wing and a prayer' and should do the honourable thing , resign!
However like all good Irish bankers, its likely that pigs will fly before this happens.

why is peoples response to one issue that everybody should resign?

why is it the 'honorable thing'?

The IHA has moved to clarify the situation, an appeal was made, they responded under legal advice.

Seems a fairly standard process has been followed so why the hysterical response.

Ok, there was an initial problem and Annadale fans will be gutted but it has a clearly, defined response.

The ruling is a fairly standard one for most sports when a game can't be completed on the day.

queso for IHL administration!!

Seems to be alot of the use of the word 'intent' and 'interpretation'.Surely the IHA needed to be more concrete than that.
Does anyone know if this is the end of this or are there 'higher' grounds of appeal. Perhaps a independent appeal or something? Would love to hear the Annadale side of things so if there are any of you out there, please inform the papers down here as well as those up in the North!!! 15euro on the fact that those things wont appear on the irish hockey 'international hockey news ticker'. Also does anyone have a link or copy if an article that appeared in the Northern Ireland Newsletter regarding the IHA and the rules they have broken over this issue. Perhaps we could see it here or the IHA would post a link on their ticker.

Clontarf v Navan
Clontarf 4 goals up at halftime !!
Game called off - RULING :- Last 35mins to be played with the original score standing !!!
No bonus points involved or route into European competions !!!
Logic for IHL / IHA decision ????

There's logic there alright. They're entirely separate competitions governed by entirely separate sets of rules. Leinster men obviously read their rule, applied it and decided in the way they thought fairest.

That just shows that the Branch is better organised than the IHA / IHL !!!
