Mills Cup Results: Round Two

Fingal 2 (Adrian Sweeney 2) YMCA 3 (Mikey Fry, Richie Miles, Stephen Barry) aet, YM win on silver goal
Stephen Barry's drag flick one minute from the end of the first period of silver goal extra-time completed a nightmare opening weekend to 2009. For the Y, it sets up a quarter-final trip to Avoca, for whom head coach Trevor Dagg regularly turns out for the third team.

Fingal started the better, Adrian Sweeney netting a rebound despite falling to his knees from his initial reverse shot. Mikey Fry (pictured) levelled with a corner rebound from Patrick Good's initial shot and Richie Miles was the beneficiary of Phil Powderly's excellent run, tapping in for 2-1.

Sweeney got the sides level once more, again scoring from a rebound from his own initial effort. They went in at half-time at 2-2 but no more goals went in until Barry's late drag - stepping in as regular flickers Jacob Webber (club imposed ban) and David Robinson (injury) were unavailable. Richie Pedreschi will join them on the sidelines with a suspected broken thumb after charging down a drag.

Iain Walker played a large part in keeping Fingal at bay for whom Chris Neville and Paddy Gahan returned this weekend. A lack of training due to the frost, though, has seen it difficult to get back up to speed.

Monkstown 5 (Gareth Watkins 5) Kilkenny 1 (Lloyd Pearson)
Five star Gareth Watkins bagged a first-half hat-trick to effectively end this last sixteen tie at Rathdown. Lloyd Pearson responded a minute into the second half and Ian Horsfield was sin-binned to give a glimmer of hope for the manager and coachless Cats who worked hard but ultimately were outdone by the classy Town. Watkins added another pair for the win.

Three Rock Rovers 9 (Lucas Piccioli 5, Tim Hill 2, Neil Lyons, Peter McConnell) Bray 0
Lucas Piccioli became the second player of the day to hit five in the late game at Grange Road in a simple win for the division one champions over division two hopefuls, Bray. They go on to host Monkstown in the quarter-final, due to be played next Sunday.
