Women's Division One: Week Eleven results

Glenanne 5 (Mary Waldron 2, Nicci Daly 2, Audrey McCormack) Corinthian 0
Glenanne comfortably disposed of Corinthian at St Mark's, taking the lead inside 90 seconds with Mary Waldron's pile-driver. Audrey McCormack smacked in another one soon after and from there, the result was never in doubt.

Waldron added the third early in the second half before two excellent Nicci Daly's strike - the first getting a great aerial touch to Derbhla Kieran's shot to lob Siobhan Burke, the second a solo effort along the 25-metre line before bursting into the circle and slamming home.

Both sides stay in there respective positions - Glenanne in seventh, Corinthian in ninth - but the Glens stay in contention of an outside chance of an IHL place.

Old Alex 1 (Lesle-Ann George) Railway Union 1 (Cecelia Joyce)
A chink of light has opened up for the chasing-pack as Railway dropped two points at Milltown though the flow of the match may mean they will be happy to have taken a point.

Alex lost 4-0 last time the sides met but have improved considerably since under Arul Anthoni. He missed the game -as well as Glenanne men's game with Corinthian - due to illness but his side hit the front early through Lesle-Ann George in the seventh minute. They held the advantage until midway through the second half when Cecelia Joyce levelled.

Bray 0 Pembroke 2 (Shona Doyle, Hilda Maguire)
Pembroke move into a tie for fourth spot with Old Alex and stay unbeaten in four league games as they completed a league double over Bray and their trio of former team mates.

Shona Doyle gave Pembroke the lead on the stroke of half-time and Hilda Maguire made the game safe in the 44th minute. Bray stay as they were, precariously above the drop zone though both their nearest rivals lost.

Hermes 2 (Aoife Mitchell, Linda Caulfield) Trinity 0
Hermes stay in third place thanks to a hard-won victory over Trinity. They went into the break scoreless with the best chance of the half going Danielle Costigan's way. She rounded the Hermes keeper but could not get enough power with her reverse to hit the backboard.

Early in the second half, though, former Trinity players Aoife Mitchell and Linda Caulfield both netted from the second phase of penalty corners to make it 2-0.

Loreto 2 (Zara Delany, Lizzie Colvin) UCD 0
Loreot took advantage of Railway's slip to close the gap to seven points with a win over Mary Logue's UCD, who drop to sixth place. Zara Delany and Lizzie Colvin celebrated their involvement with the Irish squad this week with second half goals.

Relying on others mistakes never gets you anywhere, take care pf your own results and lets see what happens. Its so obvious when comments are made by non players .

all matches this weekend were not of high quality - I was at the loreto v ucd match and while loreto won it was a scrappy game and never really got going - all in all a boring game, I also believe hermes struggled against trinity, railway v alex, a draw was fair, Alex have improved so much and if they keep going they will certenly pick up points off the chasing pack - everyone struggled - a bit too much christmas pudding - all in all it was a typical first match of the second half of the season - so the rest of the season starts here!!

Well you clearly were not at the Glenanne game so! Glenanne played some of their best hockey this season and Corinthians were no match for them! It was a great game to watch, and definitely no signs of "too much Christmas pudding"

The Glens Corinthians game was of high class. Well atleast Glens were. Nicci Daly gave a master class in attacking hockey! Good to see the Glens pretty much safe now.

To be honest, the glens CHC match was awful. I was a supporter and I thought that both teams were struggling to hear the whistle and their team mates. Not to mention the struggling that went on when running against the wind! I was looking forward to that match and was a little bored!
Glennnane played very well but I think they would agree that it was a slower game tahn it could have been in better conditions. They played more like a team and not a group of individual players, that's why they won. That and becasue of Nicki Daly.

Is it just me or is the undertone of some of those comments screaming 'posted by a railway girl'.

I agree with this comment. Although Glens were obviously better than Corinthians they are still two of the poorer sides in the division. Glens are safe now though and that's all you can ask for.

I have to say the Glens vs. CHC match was a bit of a borefest aside from the scoreline.
Have to say though the Glens look dangerous when Nicci is on the field.
Looks like the only Glens player capable of scoring or creating a goal...

So the other 3 Glens players who got on the scoresheet didn't look capable of scoring a goal then??????

I think what Glenanne have achieved over the last 2 years in fantastic. IJC, promotion to Div and holding their own up there. Why begrudge them that. Yes sure they are one of the weaker teams, but they have just come up. Stop slagging them off and outting them down and give them a chance. They are a good tough team to play against showing they are capable of competitive hockey. What more do you lot expect from them??
