Women's Division One: Loreto 1 Old Alex 0

Loreto 1 (Niamh Small) Old Alex 0

Loreto won by a single goal in the first half to exert yet more pressure on league leaders Railway union. Niamh Small (Pictured in Ireland action) bagged the solitary strike to move the Beaufort club to within a point of top spot, though they have played two games extra, to add psychological pressure to a side going in search of a first ever division one title.

The game was also notable as probably the last appearance, for the time-being at least, of Lesle-Ann George. She returns to South Africa to resume her studies after three months with Alex.

Hey Stephen, why are the womens Leinster Cup Semi-Finals at home grounds?Surely it makes more sense to have them on like the mens semi's-maybe at a different venue(although you could have had agreat day at 3Rock if both pitches were used). And is it true that the game in Bray is at 4pm!!!!!!What is thought behind all this....or isn't there any.

Yep have to agree this is 'typical' leinster ladies hockey.. A 4 pm fixutre for a Leinster Cup Semi is a bloodly joke.

Is this competition not one of the top competition in calendar.

Is it too late to have them in 3 rock what an amzaing day for getting Hockey fans out and Leinster could actually make some Revenue on the gate - 4 semis would be worth paying for, no ? ?

4.00pm start is presumably to facilitate those players in the Irish squad from Bray/Hermes that are training beforehand. And, yes -a 4.00pm start is too late.

Some one assumes the much needed revenue that would be obtained by playing the games in Three Rock (or HQ as some call it)is not needed by Leinster??

Come on you would think the irish Squad are nicely trained up after their "Training" camp in Spains Alacante .. Like there is obviously no recession going on the Irish Hockey Union - i believe they didnt even have matches -' Just warm weather' training.. (Nice )

I think Mary Goode would get more of a work out playing Hermes rather than some practice game for the Irish Squad ..

Come on Leinster WAKE UP !! Stephen perhaps you can ask the Leinster Womans Branch if they dont need revenue/ or a comment on this set up ?

Hockey in Ireland is run mainly by volunteers, so rather than always chipping away and criticising why don't you volunteer, join the Leinster Council and help out.
There is no cup secretary at the moment as Sue Sommers from Aer lingus stood down about 3/4 years ago after many years of excellent work.

How many people reading this will actually turn up to the Merger Presentation of the Mens and Ladies Committees tonight?

Sorry but I'm tired of this volunteer type talk, you have people making good decisions in other areas of the sport ie.schools hockey, development coaching etc.The ability to make common sense and practical decisions is just not there in certain areas-no. 1 being the ladies branch.

A few years ago the semis were held on neutral ground - why they changed this - I don't know, the bray match is on at 4pm - hope they don't have to go to extra time as the lights are not really match standard - Railways match against UCD is on at 4.45 - it would have been a great idea to have all semis in one venue it would be great for leinster hockey and also the bar in three rock - but as we are always told - Ireland come first - how many players are involved in irish training?? this date has been in the diary from day one is Gene just plucking dates out of his head for these sessions?

Mary Goode has been released a bit earlier from Irish training so Bray have now opted for a later game.

so thats the reason for the late start in bray why then as railway v ucd been changed from 4.15 to 4.45 - no irish players on the railway team and 2 outfield players on the ucd team - are irish now dictating leinster hockey

UCD also got a postponement against Glenanne for Saturday's match due to Leinster cup involvement on Sunday. Railway are playing 2 games this weekend, they didn't ask for a postponement.
Why should clubs be given postponements due to Irish camps?? And seemingly from talking to various players this is only allowed on the womens side. It disrupts the league for those "non-international" teams and creates so many problems with re-fixing etc.
Why can the rules be the same for men and womens sides, and the rules be laid out clearly for all to see. Surely there has to be rules about re-fixing matches??
Can anyone clarify this??

It was made clear to all Division 1ladies clubs that that there was to be no postponements to facilitate players at Irish camps. It seems that was conveniently ignored when it came to granting Loreto a postponement against Hermes.... I think the sooner the men and women merge the better.. the ladies rules are a joke.

are the quinns vs pembroke pics going up soon?? whoever took them stayed around for the pembroke seconds match too any chance of those photos.. Div 2 is hotting up!

i say fair play to mick and the railway team... not asked for a postponment....

Why were Mary Goode and Emma Gray allowed to play Leinster cup and Roisin Flinn and Lisa Jacob not allowed to play?
