The three-game 'mini-league' between Old Alex, UCD and Pembroke for the fourth women's IHL qualification spot from the Leinster league gets underway tonight at Serpentine Avenue as the students take on Pembroke at 8.30pm.
Pembroke lead the way currently with 28 points from 16 games. Alex are currently fifth on the same points but with a game extra played while UCD have completed 16 fixtures and are on 25 points.
Alex play at Pembroke on Saturday at 12pm before the Belfielders complete the season against Hermes next week. Fifth place will take a wildcard placing to be played over the May Bank Holiday weekend at Grange Road.

Steve, any word yet on IHA awards nominations? Reckon there will have to be a few Leinster names in there. Or the top goalscorers in Leinster for other than the Mens first division?
It will be a huge pity if UCD do not qualify for the IHL next year. They have played some super hockey this season - though they have struggled to score goals (ironic since they have two strikers on the Irish team). Alex have played well at times, but not as consistently as UCD and Pembroke have managed to get some good results even though they do not play the best hockey to watch.

The awards nominees are likely to be released next Tuesday. Sorry, have fallen behind with doing the goalscorers lists. Will try and get onto that soon but realistically it may not be until next week due to the volume of big matches/issues this week.
I agree with 4.55pm. As a member of a team that has already qualified, we have definitely been tested more by UCD than either Alex or Pembroke this season...
ucd fail to score in the important games and that has effected their league positioning this year. they just dont have the ability to finish like hermes railway loreto in the games that arent 'big'. hopefully they'll do the business on sunday
I agree it would be very unfortunate if ucd do not retain their IHL place as have beaten many top teams this year in various competitions. It seems they have had no luck in the league.
