Well its official, UCD ladies - legend!!

just watched the game on RTE - thought the attendance was low. Pembroke scored some great goals, but some of the Cookstown players would not look out of place at Croke Park this weekend. What a gulf in class. Would Sherrif not come back and play for Ireland , him and David Smyth two great players which would make a big difference to the national team.

Great to see the two 1951 team mates explaining how they played the semi-final Friday, the semi final replay Saturday morning and the final which also went to extra time on Saturday afternoon. Wouldn't happen these days. Great win by UCD!

Clearly you dont know just how good Justy is!!! He is world class and he would walk on the Irish team if he was bothered...a class better than the current Irish forwards, which is not taking anything away from them. Ask any players who have had to mark him compared to the others!! He had true respect from The Dutch Spanish and Germans, unfortunately, as good as they are, none of the current internationals are close to that...

Seems like a last minute decision by RTE to show the finals!! Great to see hockey on the TV though it has been ages since they showed ISC and more from setanta this weekend!

no irish player is world class! they wouldnt be playing hockey in ireland if they were. Sherrif is some player tho, took his goal very well.

he did play abroad!!! He has realised that there is more to life than hockey!!

what are ya on about? Sherrif would def be on the Irish team, Ive marked him and most of the other current forwards involved with the Irish setup and he is the best..obviously I still think the others are good players

yep Monkstown's support last year is still the bench mark. Sorry Cookstown you need more supporters...

Having played with and against Justin there is no question that he would be on an Irish team at present. He was one of Irelands greatest "current generation" talents along with Mark Raphael,Davy Smyth and Chris Jackson. Dave Passmores legacy as coach will always be how he managed to let these players retire far too early from the international game.

Watched the highlights last night and here are my thoughts. I thought the commentary was excellent on both matches with that total lack of patronising we sometimes get regarding shots from outside the circle etc and commentators explaining the rules. I thought the atmosphere was excellent and the singing in the crowd sounded very good on TV. I was however massively disappointed by the crowd. It was very small and in my opinion is due in part to it being held in the 'graveyard' of Irish hockey. It is time for the IHA to send the finals and finals weekends out to clubs where there are bars and atmosphere etc. Perhaps the IHA will produce spectator numbers to compare the attendance at both the ISC final and the IHL final and we can see the difference. I for one will go to the IHL final as I can bring the kids, can go in easily for a drink and it doesnt feel like I am at some leisure centre somewhere!!

Its a good that Monkstown have such support, cookstown had I'm guessing just under 100 supporters in Dublin. How many supporters would monkstown have had if the final was staged 2 hours drive away and not in their home city? probably something similar to cookstown had.

Ireland dont have any world class players. Two words...David Harte

well if you saw how many they brought to garvey for the semi where they took the place over you might change your views. Anyway lets not get petty its great to see such good support at matches and long may it continue. Lets see what the IHL semi finalists can muster in TRR this weekend...

fantastic college - your a lovely side to umpire, you just want to play unlike other teams that just want to moan, well done again

Re commentary on mens match.I thought Butsie was gracious in his comments re Pembroke and the BIG issue as raised by RTE prior to the game. What a great advertisement for our game in the way he handled this issue.well done.

Attendance was very poor at the mens final but there was a great turn out for the womens match. The stand was pretty full as was the area behind the goals. There was a bar open up there as well.I think its better to watch the matches up in UCD where u have a stand to sit in which is covered if it rains.Great match and a great day overall.Atmosphere was brilliant for the womens match.Well done to both Pembroke and UCD

fair enough comment, it's easy to get fans out to a final that's only half an hour away from jsut about everyone. of course you're forgetting the 80 or so people that went up to garvey for the semi final last year and completely drowned the place out.

seriously though, how did such a silly argument get started?

i played for cookstown in the final and i can safely say that justin sherriff is absolutely immense...he was the best player on the pitch and is UNDOUBTEDLY the best forward in Ireland...almost the best player along with butler and shaw

CHC Player

I think you'll find Gordon Elliott was actually the best player on the pitch on sunday.Justin Sherriff isn't the best forward in Ireland anymore,he was once but having seen him a fair few times over the last few seasons he hasn't been performing at all.Take nothing away his performances when he was 23/24 still sets the international standard that all those young guys aim to achieve but they're showing signs that they're very close to it

Sheriff is class and dont ever kid yourself that any current international is as good as him. Also D Smyth would have been good enough to play on any team in the world on his day. He is a true great of Irish hockey and the problem is that Passsmore and Revington need these players if Ireland are to take the next step.
