News in Brief

* Ireland enjoyed a relatively successful trip to Chile last week, beating the hosts 6-0, drawing with South Africa (1-1) and Argentina (1-1) before losing out 2-1 to the Argentines in the final. The side looked accomplished against the World number 7s, who they will also meet in the final group match of the Olympic qualifiers in February.

After a short break for Christmas and New Year, the squad will resume training in January, with established players like Stephen Butler and Graham Shaw rejoining the team.

* Slightly old news, but Dutch player Fatima Moreira de Melo was recently voted the Netherland's sexiest woman ahead of the country's soap stars and reality TV fools. To see a picture of her with a snake, click here

*The Leinster indoor league draw has been released and are available on the Leinster hockey website. To view it, click here and click on the indoor option

*Finally, two Dutch sides are hoping to visit Dublin in the New Year. The first is former Trinity and Genesis coach Gilles van Hesteren's Amsterdam U18 girls team. They are currently the best team in their age category and are looking for high quality opposition from Thursday 14 Feb till Sunday 17 Feb.

The second is FIT Women 1sts. They are currently in the promotion positions in the Dutch division 3, so any good 2nds team or 1st team in division 2 or 3 would be a good match.

If you can provide opposition, email me at stevie_findlats@yahoo.com

That Dutch bird is hot alright, so to change the angle on recent debates on this site slightly, what Irish ladies player would be included in a lads' mag? Or does anyone know of anyone who already has on the sly?

On the above comment, to warn you in advance, the likelihood of me allowing a debate as to which ladies in the Leinster league you are partial to is not likely to be allowed on this site.
