Under 16 Cup: Monkstown 4 Railway Union 1

Monkstown U-16 completed a great weekend for the club as they retained the BT Atkinson Cup at Pembroke yesterday afternoon in their refixed final.

David Watkins opened the scoring before Peter English equalised for Railway. But goals from Stephen Cole, Simon Lowry and Chris Hayes sealed a memorable weekend for the Town.

Rescheduling the final wasn't fair on the Monkstown lads. They deserved to play on the original day (St. Patricks day) after the ISC final, when there was a large crowd present and the club had the opportunity to show off it's up and coming talent.

I can understand some clubs like Railway struggling to field teams for league matches (a lot of clubs are in the same boat) but there would be no way I would have missed playing in my U16 finals when I was a young lad, family plans or otherwise!
