IJC Round One results

Three Rock, Pembroke, Monkstown, YMCA, Glenanne and Fingal all take their place in the hat for the second round of the IJC as they all had relatively easy passages to the next round.

YM beat Belfast Harlequins thanks to goals from Gary Ryan and the youthful pair of Josh Purcell and Jamie Tobin.

They join Weston there by virtue of their walkover from UCC while Corinthian are still involved too. They were fortunate against Newry, trailing 1-0 before the rain came to cancel their game with 20 minutes remaining.

In the highlight of the men's draw, Cork C of I II beat Annadale II. Following a deluge earlier in day which soaked everyone during the earlier ladies IJC match between C of I and Lurgan, the clouds cleared for the men's match to be played in perfect conditions. Annadale opened the scoring early with a short corner rebound from Connor Allison.

C of I, however, were playing a good passing game and deservedly went ahead 2-1 at half time with two short corners from Andy Gray.

Annadale got back into the game but failed to beat Billy Lynch in the CofI goal. Roger Gray scored from another short corner for CofI late on to make it 3-1.

On the women's side, Trinity, Old Alex and Railway Union made it through while Loreto won their preliminary round. Hermes' match was cancelled due to the weather, as was Clontarf's.

Pembroke were a high profile casualty, losing to Galway 2nds on strokes while Corinthian, Glenanne, Bray and Genesis all falling by the wayside too.

The next round will take place on January 17, the draw will take place in due course.

Re the C of I v Dale IJC the reporter fails to mention Annadale should of been awarded a PS due to feet on the line but the umpire gave nothing while the score was 2-1, and Annadale had 12 corners to C of I 5, so so much for deserved lead!

Re CI v 'Dale. Obviously if Dale had 12 short corners and only scored one, they have only themselves to blame and not just the umpires !
