Leinster Senior Cup: Round One

Clontarf 4 (Ciaran McNamara 2, Ross McMullen, Gareth Borland) UCD 3 (Ben Grogan, Neil Young, Tadhg Walsh-Peelo)
Clontarf advance to the second round to play Railway Union after an exciting win against a UCD-side that showed the rigours of their recent schedule. Tarf went 3-1 thanks to two corner defelctions up at the Bull Ring from Ciaran McNamara and a tap in from Ross McMullen.

He got on the end of the returning Andrew Poynter's - back from his time with the Irish cricket teams efforts in the Intercontinental cup in South Africa - ball from just outisde the circle.

Goals from Neil Young and Tadhg Walsh-Peelo brought matters level with 12 minutes to go, however centre-back Gareth Borland got on the end of a breakout of Rob Kelly's reverse-stick cross to deflect home a winner with five minutes to go.

Navan 1 Three Rock Rovers 7 (Peter Blakeney 4, Garry Ringwood ps, Quentin Heaney, Patrick Shanahan)
A depleted Three Rock-side still had too much in the tank as they beat Navan in the Mills Cup first round. Niall Denham made his first start for the firsts since returning from Holland while Quentin Heaney and 16-year-olds George Dockrell and Alan White were others called up for the game.

Peter Blakeney completed a good personal weekend, netting six in two days while Patrick Shanahan clipped in a sweet reverse in a match played in Swords.

Weston 1 Corinthian 6
Corinthian produced the goods in the second half against Weston to triumph 6-1, despite being level at half-time.

Good win for Clontarf today. That keeps another Div 2 Competing in this cup against the bigger clubs.

does the under 21 cup start tommorow? what is the standard like this year?who is playing who in the first round?

doherty didny play for corinthians against weston.it would have being a fair score at half time if weston where 3-1 up. only for there drag flicks thatn saved them,as a neutral supporter i have to give it to weston they really put it up to chc.if they play like this they should out it up to most div 2 teams this season

ye the 21 cup starts tomorrow!
Monkstown are playing YM which will be a really good game I would think. Lots of decent players on show

weston got a counter attack first half, and 1 on 1 with keeper and got fouled got a stoke and scored that was there only real chance.

Not sure waht game neutral was at --CHC had lots of chances in first half but did not convert them due to keeper and posts. Weston played really well in first half scoring one and nearly a second but were totally outplayed in H2. Doherty played and scored 4 short corners.

I was the keeper for Weston against CHC. We had some chances in the first half and should have been 2-1 up. In the second half CHC dominated bar the last 5 minutes when they took their foot off the gas and gave us some more space.
We need to play like that every week to step up in Div 2.

the u21's is a great tournament to watch, YM and Monkstown game will make for a great game to watch, alot of talent on show. No doubt it will be an epic battle

Prediction: YM edge out Monkstown 2-1

ym would be favourites in the 21's game i would think.with a lot of their players having played in the 1st division they should probably win. although saying that monkstown could cause an upset with a lot of their players being from the all ireland winning andrews squad. should be a good game to watch.

the previous commentaer seems to have forgotten that neither of those teams made the final last year!whats to say that pembroke wont win it again they have some fantastic young players coming through their system and glennane also have some very talented youth players who are making regular appearences with the senior team.

im pretty sure the glenanne team is the exact same as last year apart from maybe one or two at the most.

monkstown beat ym 3-1 las night in a very good game.

monkstown may owe a bit of a thank you to their keeper. He played a blinder.......

ye ym dominated the entire game monkstown had 2 second half chances and scored both, one of them on the final whistle.....

i think you will find monkstown had 3 second half chaances with one drag flick goin wide and then two well taken goals. at the end of the day the team that wins is the team who takes there chances best and defends best and monkstown did this.

any monkstown player will agree they robbed ym like ym did to them last year

Ye i think out of last years team to make it to the final there only missing that kennedy chap up front. So not to much has changed!!

Actually, although Monkstown were outplayed for large parts of the match they did play some great hockey. Their keeper was man of the match and really they also owe a big thank you to snowy!!!! Monkstown will only lose 2 out of their squad next season and had David Cole playing who is eligible for anothe 7 seasons!!!!
