Men's Division Two: Bray 1 Clontarf 1

Bray 1 (Cliff Bailey) Clontarf 1 (Rob Abbott)

Clontarf came within 45 seconds of a perfect league season but Cliff Bailey's short corner strike meant Bray became the first, and only, side to take points off the Bulls in what has been an incredible season for the Northside club.

Given the lack of any tangible reward, other than the issue of making or breaking that 100pc record, the two sides still managed to serve up a fiery battle, played at breakneck speed amid the rain rolling in off the Irish Sea.

Clontarf had the best of the first half, drawing a string of saves from Greg Keeley, but Bray hung in, Mark Brooks and Bailey combining nicely to win four corners before the break. The second half followed in the same fast and furious vein, with 'Tarf managing to beat Keeley only for Ben Adams to tackle the ball to safety from his own goal-line.

Chris Willoughby spurned a gilt-edged chance at the far end before, deep into the second half, Rob Abbott netted high, reacting quickest to a breaking ball after a Bray stick-tackle saw the
ball squirm into his path.

But the hosts reacted well and won one last corner for a deliberate foot far out on the left wing. The pull-out was far from perfect but
Phil Davis switched right to Bailey who cracked home for a wildly celebrated draw - a cruel manner to deny the perfect season.

They can, however, double-up on the silverware front if they claim the Neville Davin Cup in two weekends time - the fixture rescheduled from Sunday to May 2.

Phil Davis and Marcus North....Dont know who would be more honoured. I suppose a century on debut for the Aussies wasnt enough and had to start looking for new challenges.

Mad game of hockey last night though, both teams were well up for it.

No 4 for Bray was Phil Davis, from Australia.
