Women's Division One: Back matches

Wednesday: Old Alex 1 (Aoife Budd) Hermes 2
In a vital set of fixtures for the IHL placings, Hermes all but confirmed their place in the top three on Wednesday night as they produced a controlled performance to lead 2-0 until six minutes from the end before Aoife Budd made it a lively finish.

The result, put a big dent in Alex's hopes of securing an IHL place.

UCD 3 (Rachel Burke 2, Elaine O'Neill) Glennane 0
UCD bounced back from defeat on Monday night to get right back into contention for the IHL places, especially in combination with the Alex loss. Elaine O'Neill opened the scoring in the first half before Rachel Burke scored on the double in the second.

Here first was a scrappy effort, scoring from near the endline while her second was the result of a well-worked corner. For Glenanne, it completed their league programme is slightly low-key style though they can be pleased with a competitive return to division one with a number of young players showing they may have the potential to kick on in 2009/10.

Thursday: Pembroke 2 (Louisa Moore, Aoife O'Gorman) Railway Union 0

Pembroke became the first side to beat Railway in normal time in Leinster competition this year as they shaded the Sandymount derby. Railway handed a first-team debut to 16-yer-old Lisa McCarthy while they rotated their squad slightly more than usual with Saturday's key IHL match with Loreto weighing on Mick McKinnon's mind but the 'Broke showed the more incisive finishing.

Louisa Moore scored from play while Aoife O'Gorman crashed in a corner. It crucially puts Pembroke three clear of Alex and six clear of UCD, though the students have two games in hand.

can someone please clarify the rules on umpires consulting each other!? if they're asked to consult by a team's captain are they allowed to refuse to do so or are they obliged to!??

So Hermes get the 3 points on that replay... If Alex end up taking the fifth IHL spot from UCD on goal difference, the Leinster branch and Alex will have a lot to answer for.. Come on the students!!!!

Im a umpire and I would confer, if approached and spoken to in a civil manner by the captain - you might not change your mind but it at least defuses the situation

There is no obligation for umpires to consult just because the captain requests it.... however as noted previously I would have no problem in double-checking my decision if asked sincerely and if I felt that the other umpire might be able to offer additional insight.

Is it true that the UCD students are playing 6 competitive games in 12 days starting with their ISC semi last sat and ending with Alex next Wed?!
If so, thats a ridiculous amount of games for any athlete to play. Should definitely be some allowance from the Leinster Branch for extra days to play back games.

Yes it is true. The situation hasn't been helped by the date for the rescheduled U21 interpros on the 18/19th April. UCD have seven players playing in this a week before the Irish Senior Cup final and it limits the time available to play re-fixes which have resulted from their run in the ISC.

Yea that's right about UCD. Just hope they are able for it! With regards the branch, don't think there's much they can do. Matches have to be played and UCD are already palying games right up to 29th of April! Rescheduling of U-21s along with other factors such as snow and their cup run has lead to this situatuon!

Best of luck to them with it all anyway! They are a great team!
