Women's Division One: UCD 0 Old Alex 1

UCD 0 Old Alex 1 (Leanne Ryan)

In the mini-league between UCD, Old Alex and Pembroke, Alex went into the final trio of games as the side most vulnerable to drop out of the top five and be definitely out of the IHL running for the 2009/10 season.

However, their 1-0 win at Belfield tonight means it is UCD who are the chasers in sixth place. Leanne Ryan (pictured) got the only goal of the game, snapping up a corner rebound after Jan Ovington had hit a post in the first half.

The majority of the game was played between the 25s but the students - still without Lisa Jacob - rallied very late on with a pair of corners and Catriona McGlip going close. In truth, though, they were their only chances of a very tightly balanced fixture.

Pembroke stay fourth with a better goal difference over Alex. The pair play on April 18 while the 'Broke also have to play UCD. The Belfielders also have Hermes to play on April 18 making this battle go right down to the wire.
