Men's U-21 interpros restructued

The men's U-21 interpros has been restructured this season to be just a single day tournament to be played on April 19 at Grange Road. The move comes after consultation between the men's branches. Currently, the women's competition remains in its two day format.

Each province will be allowed use 18 players for each game and games will be 30 minutes each way. The auto-pass rule, as used in the IHL, will be implemented in the men's tournament only.

Men's match schedule (April 19):
10.30am Leinster v Munster; 1.45pm Ulster v Munster; 5pm Ulster v Leinster

Sensible decision all round

Suggest this 1 day tournament as a template for Senior interpros. 3 weekends in a row. In 3 provinces (on a rotation basis) with provincial squad sessions on the week days in between. To be attended at various venues by national coaches to have input.

No overnight expenses. No training time clashes. No players having to pay for expenses. Plenty of squad rotation possibilities. Time for squads to build up a bond.

Bring Div 1 down to 8 teams so fixtures not a problem allowing this moratorium for interpros and potentially an indoor tournament on the calendar.

Just a thought

Well there will be over night expenses since all teams are expected to attend the dinner in the D4 Hotel on the sat night, sensible to bring in the auto pass

So players are going to play 3 games in 2 days? a div 1 match then 2 interpro games?

This is farcical really. Why not just cancel the tournament. Its like a blitz for under 12s not an interpro tournament for young players aspiring to play international hockey. The branches and the iha competitions committee need to get on the same page. As that committee is made up of representatives of the branch competitions committee how come branch fixtures are not being rescheduled or why was it rescheduled for this date anyway?

The sooner the interpros are revised with the players interests at the heart of it the better. I would imagine at least half the players in 21 interpros have college exams looming.

yes it is a joke.No body knows who makes these decisions. It was not IHA competitions comm.which hasnt met since before Christmas .
Inter pros have no place now in IHA structure with IHL so succesful.Only U-16,U-18 make any sense.

They've done worse, for example All Ireland School were they play 5 games in 3 days. I'm sure they can take it.

I think if you ask most clubs and players involved in the IHL they would like the IHL changed to a 12 match program. To make this work, matches played every ohter week from Mid Sept to early Nov, and then from Feb every other week. Branch leagues every other week with IHL and in the IHL break. No cup competitions, the Branch league matches to be played on set dates that cannot be changed.
No Senior or U21 Inter-pro's.
Only cup competition being the ISC for Senior League 1st Teams.
IHA to set all competition dates, for IHL, ISC and for the Branch Leagues.

In response to 1.39pm, that all sounnds well and good but what if your club isn't in the IHL? Are you supposed to just six on your hands for 12 weeks during the season?
