YM to retain coaching ticket

YMCA became the second club to announce their coach for next season, confirming Trevor Dagg will be in charge of the first team for a third consecutive season while Ger Butler will stay on as assistant coach for 2009/10.

It comes three days after the end of what can be seen as decent season in YM's development, reaching the Neville Cup final and the Mills semi.

The young side only lost twice in eight games in the league since Christmas - single goal defeats to Pembroke and Glenanne - recovering well from a crippling injury list to finish seventh.

The second team, meanwhile, completed their league season in third with an IJC semi-final and Railway Cup final to their name. Allied to the quintet of Leinster U-21s, the mood is positive around Claremont Road.

A club statement today said "Although an expected outcome, we are delighted to keep the continuity of coaching for the squad.

"We see the investment in time and money in coaching and management as vital for our young side to continue its upward curve. Since Trevor's commencement as head coach in 2007, YM has progressed from being a bottom three club, culminating in a strong season this year."

Yes, definite improvement but YM have just gone from being a bottom 3 club to a bottom 4 club!

Not a helpfull comment at all. YM have gone from a struggling Div1 side to a side that is more than capable of holding their own against some of the bigger clubs.

They have a very young squad that has some remarkable talent and will only get stronger in the next year or so if they keep the current squad together.

Daggers has done a great job over the last two years and has also developed a good indoor side.

anyone know of any coaches out there that are available?

Looking at the table, they are not a huge amount off Corinthian and Fingal. They seemed to have had some good tussles with Fingal this year so could be gunning for that spot next season!

slow process but good signs

Walker will probably need to join a top 3 club to advance his undoubted potential and cement the irish keeper spot ahead of harte. Keeper of his quality should be playing in europe and in the big games at home

ye walker defo needs to be not only playin ihl needs to be playin in ehl if he is ever goin to be number 1 otherwise he could be number 2 or 3 for his whole career.

keeper is one are pretty blessed in, reckon Harte must be in top five in the world if you look at the major tournaments. more to do and does it brilliantly.

walker would probably walk into plenty of other country's national teams. trying to get ahead of harte will be great competition for both keepers to stay on top of their game

IHL equates to five games at "top level" and Harte didnt play in EHL. I wouldnt be worried about Iain going anwhere. He is ambitious and he is ambitious with YM. If you had an IHL where you were playnig a full season (like in any strong hockey playing nation) of 18-20 games of IHL then you may have a point. However Ireland once again goes for the middle ground and falls short of where it needs to be.

TD's appointment could be 'key' to YM, as long as he doesn't lose them again!! Boom!!

If you cant produce your own, keep your hands off the players that have a bit of loyalty, and are trying to pull together to make things happen at their own club.
Dont think the Glens were that hot less than 10 years ago,but they stuck together and now look at them.Leave other clubs' players with talent to it,and lets see what happens.

daggers could break bounderies (cough....windows) and this is 'key' next season for YM.

I play in YM and couldnt be happier to be playing with a player like iain. The respect he has from the players comes from loyalty and ambition to bring the club forward! I understand people saying that he should leave and go to top three, but i know first hand that he does not want to move to the top, he wants to bring YM to the top... and i have alot of respect for him doing that because its not seen much in the league with top players. People would understand if he moved, but i couldnt see it happening!
