Future of Leinster hockey= YM. 4 players on the under 21's with a fifth unlucky not to get on. Also a bundle of u'18's to add to that. Great to see

I heard they lost 8-7 to three rock 1s/2s this week after being 5-1 up at half time. Can anyone confirm this? Sounds like yet another leinster team great at going forward but suspect at the back?

who are the players ud thought wud be in there.this is a great squad and it also great to see a squad obviously selected by someones work rather then living on a reputation

Henry Micks?

yeah, i was lucky enough to play in the Leinster U21 v TRR 1/2 practise match..., not many matches are 15 goal thrillers!! so I can definitely agree that they are awesome going forward, with a host of players that have great attacking skills, but once we also started putting the press on and got the ball in behind them they were very very suspect defensively.
Queso.

Henry Micks should be involved in that squad! a underated player who those the simple stuff well with a high work rated!he has proven it last season for the U21 side that one the competition.

ah good to see some chaps well worth their place getting into the squad but like , what is the defence like ?

Furthermore what is the hype about YM??they're third from bottom in the league..can't that speak for itself??

i played in the game last night against the U21s and i feel they are a great side with capabilities of winning their tournament in January, the one problem they may have is strength in depth having taken off three players at half time from centre back(ali haughton) centre midfield(chris peelo) and centre forward(alan southern),they seemed to lack a bit of organisation after this and lost some communication

Yeah having a coach who hasn't heard of most of the players has obviously meant that this squad was picked on talent and perfomance at the trials rather then reputations which is the way it should be!

Good luck lads!

It's hardly 'hype' about YM my friend, it's the fact that they are producing heaps of talent at under age level, and these players are learning the ropes at senior league level, which can only bode well for everyone, especially the club. They have been thrown in at the deep end to a certain extent (7 players that played Cookstown lastweek were 19 or under!), but in seasons to come, providing they all stick together, YM will be mixing it with the best.

And that's the key point....
"providing they all stick together"....
how long do you think a host of very talented underage provincial and international players will stick with a team that is currently 3rd from bottom...and not expected to make the inaugural All-Ireland league??
I would suggest one or two seasons at most, if YM don't turn it around (which they may well do with increasing experience) then they will look to train and play with clubs that are competing at the highest levels in Irish club hockey.... and that's simply because their senior international ambitions will be under threat.

Not the squad I expected at all, some strange decsions there! Loughery is he not still u18's? What about Nick Dee wasnt he on the irish under 18's that went to Europe? Pedreschi, Smith, Ward, do they play senior 1's?

why did henry micks get droped he has played two 21s interpros ???????

I think its crazy to say that this team has been picked on hard work and effort as if you look across the first league in Leinster there are about 5 players that start consistently for their respective clubs week in week out that have been performing better than alot of these players this season. I believe this team may have been picked on mere reputation.

Pedreschi certainly plays 1's. Ive heard he's been very impressive starting every game for ym this season. Anyway, who would take his position up front? And who even matches his pace? Dont think Micks starts for Corinthians. Who cares if he was in the squad for the last 2 years? Thats the impressive thing; this squad is obviously based on current performance levels.

why isn't henry micks in this squad? i thought he played the previous two years did he not? is ali haughton still underage? could have sworn he was 23 at least.how come he hasnt been involved with any irish squads does anyone know?i think i remember rightly he was in the leinster senior team last season.whos this andrew ward and where does he come from?

Its not as if its been over night that YM have turned into an average squad at best. They have not finished in the top 4 in the league for the past 5 seasons or more. Any group of young players could go out and loose to Cookstown 7-0 and earn 4 points this season. A couple of players, ie Neil Lions have already moved ship and with them almost gaurenteed not to make the All-Ireland league other players may be tempted....all aside congrats to the lads who made the U21 side and i wish them all the best.

I think its mad that Nick Dee didn't make the squad, he plays week in week out for monkstown 1st and has been one of the best performers in the defense for them. Who picked the team?

I think there are a lot of people hiding behind their computer screens here asking questions as to why certain players weren't picked, the simple truth is that those players didn't perform at the trials and as anyone who has been involved in trial based squads will know, no matter how good you are or how well you've played before you're only as good as you're last performance, this must have been the case with both Micks and Dee. It isn't doubted that these players are both talented and have been performing well for their clubs however the final decision lies with the coach and if he felt that their were better options for this squad then he was right to srop them...its not always the best 16 players that get picked for a team its the best mixture of 16 players that will make it a good team..

leinster r 2 worried whether the dressing rooms have plugs 4 their ghds than winning the title, leave that 2 the real teams! pretty boys!

munster will win the 21's..

very impressive saturday against harlequins..
munster seem to reject who are and pick you on what you are..

ali haughton for the record is under-age hence that is why he was picked..
but i think he is a long way off international standard..
but he is probably the best defender in both the trr team and also this leinster 21s..
