Avoca II and III claimed division ten and 13, respectively, and with the possibility of their newly formed IV’s gaining promotion from division 14, it made for an exceptional season for the Newpark-based club.
The 2s, coached by George Roberts and captained Katherine Lyall, claimed promotion for the second year in-a-row following a closely fought battle with fellow promoted side, Swords II.
They ended with a perfect home record and conceded only five goals in the league campaign, the defense marshalled by Sarah Mc Donagh and Chloe Usher proving hard to crack.
Paula Anderton was in rich scoring form but the key to the wins was no less than 14 members of the squad contributing to the scoring. They remain on course for a double, facing Three Rock Ladies IV in the division 9/10 cup final on April 10.
The third team, co-captained by Sheena Chapple and Kate O'Callaghan, clinched a very competitive Division 13 late on, thanks to wins over their nearest rivals YMCA II and Old Alex VI.
The team’s scoring prowess came from experienced striker Eithne Robinson leading the way with eight goals, followed closely by Niamh Gaughan and Hilary Lennon. YM II took second place in the final table, two points off the pace.
The fourths – introduced last September following a growth in player numbers – also look to be moving up with as many as five sides possibly stepping up to division 13 in league restructuring.
They are currently in third with a game on April 10 still to play. The huge influx of new players last september helped to strengthen the 3rds team and create a 4ths team so we are hoping for more of the same next September.
